but I have one question, which parameter should I change if I want to have more wide rivers? the one that you gave me generates small rivers (less than 5 tiles wide), and i want extra wide river to test my bridge construction skills

If you increase the amount of rain, you'll get larger rivers.  Of course, you'll also get more vegetation & trees, so that's a consequence.  Increase the minimum rain to 50, and if that's not enough, try 100.
Very Large rivers (up to an entire tile wide) require a long run length, lots of rain, and ideally quite a drop in elevation over the length of the river.

I'm trying to find an embark with the following properties:

- 3x3
- river gorge (8+ z-levels high; anything bigger than a brook is fine)
- all the requirements for a steel industry
- some trees and vegetation
- default cavern/magma sea settings
- a fairly long history and some extra megabeasts (I've been using 1000 years for optimal dragons)
- all four civilised races alive and in range

Any of the following would be nice bonuses:

- sand
- clay
- multiple shallow/deep metals
- multiple biomes
- high savagery
- a partial aquifer (full is okay if the site is otherwise good)
- a small world, for improved performance

After some experiments with the world gen settings, I've found a few gorges, but they always seem to occur around high waterfalls at the intersection of two watercourses.  I've read that those are pretty bad for performance, though.  Does anyone have an embark like this without one, or know how to make gorges more likely to appear?  (What I've tried so far: extreme elevation variance, more rainfall, turning off periodic erosion of cliffs.)

River gorges or river canyons... this is an "artificial" (PSV) world you may be able to bend to your will, Warzameg:

Everywhere that the river runs north-south, and has a tributary join it, there's a 50Z sheer vertical/sheer cliff canyon.  The farther north you go, the narrower the canyon, but it's always at least 50Z at those points.

You like awful sludge rain? You wish cows get covered in blistering yellow mucus? Maybe want more zombie polar bear? Not enough? How about giant zombie polar bear, is good, is two more than regular one! You throw them in volcano maybe, maybe you die on embark immediately, is difficult to say.

Note: I have dorfs making towns since forts are lagfests right now (yes, worse than 10k pop towns due to everyone trying to path up/down the ramp every time you load the map) and gobbos settling in mountain regions, I'm not sure how it will change when you don't have those changes in place but it should be interesting nonetheless. If it doesn't have purple across half or more of the glacier up top just cancel and restart it a couple times.

Hello guys !

So today i generated a pretty cool map :



A square steep mountains with sheer cliffs on the edge of a lake ! Unfortunately the only 2 civs around are dwarves and gobbos. Is there any way to add some other civs like humans and elves ? I haven't tried the new version yet, so i would like all kind of neighbors to fill my taverns !

ps : i can share the seed if someone is interested !

If you generate the world again with everything the same except for the history seed, I think you should get the same landscape but, potentially, more neighbours.

So I did some science!

I (for some reason) thought x/y elevation variation didn't matter when you had elevation presets (and similar for other parameters) and had been going through trying to see if I could find a south facing exposed volcano tube.

On this world:


As well as many like it I had found nothing but drained south/east facing tubes, with only north/west exposed tubes being intact. So I was trying to figure out why and realized I hadn't changed the x/y variation during all my experiments.

So, I did just that, plus seeing what the elevation cycles and things like number of peaks did.

Hi all... almost total noob at the generation process here.  How do I increase the level of savagery and evil in a large region map without making the generator puke and die?  Every time I raise the values I can get minimum to about 20 before I start getting a flood of rejects.

I'm new to succession forts in general, yes, but do all forts designed by multiple overseers inevitably degenerate into a body-filled labyrinth of chaos and despair like this? Or is this just a Battlefailed thing?

There isn't much middle ground between killed-by-dragon and never-seen-by-dragon.

Hi all... almost total noob at the generation process here.  How do I increase the level of savagery and evil in a large region map without making the generator puke and die?  Every time I raise the values I can get minimum to about 20 before I start getting a flood of rejects.
As an example, this worldgen features a PSV which has a very small area that is non-savage.
Savagery prevents civ placement, so using it this way lets you strongly influence where civ's are placed.
You can also clear the seeds and try it a few times to see how it works.  The rejections are low.

I'm new to succession forts in general, yes, but do all forts designed by multiple overseers inevitably degenerate into a body-filled labyrinth of chaos and despair like this? Or is this just a Battlefailed thing?

There isn't much middle ground between killed-by-dragon and never-seen-by-dragon.

This is a dead dwarven civ world, with all races (Humans, Elves, Goblins) showing up as neighbors on the embark finder screen. 
Civ screen is empty after embark.  No migrants (after the two hard-coded waves) or liaisons or caravans or sudden promotions to nobility.  Played it out to two years to be sure.
Embark location is steel friendly, with clay, sand, and a tiny aquifer in SE corner, easily ignored or utilized.

Does adjusting the mineral value add more minerals or does it just make more veins of what's already there?

I would expect changing the abundance would cause the distribution in the world to be completely different: a single RNG value added or removed somewhere in some tile will scramble the RNG wheel. It will probably affect everything using that seed generated after the mineral allocation as well.
