I feel like the last post went on long enough.

Here are some pictures of BLAZECOOK'S Mead Hall: The Rhyming Lemon. Both the common room and royal quarters have multi-z ceilings, 2z and 3z(vaulted roof) respectively.

Spoiler: Common Room (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Raised Dais (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Royal Quarters (click to show/hide)

EDIT: Make sure you check out the previous post. It was heavily edited. Lot of things happened.

Oh also, Wolfhunter has been indicted for not making figurines. Time to build some cages, wouldn't want LordBrassRoast to beat him with his training sword.

"We approve. Provide us with more figurines."

In all seriousness, though, if dorf!me likes figurines so much, put a figurine stockpile in her room.

Heiterverzweiflung. Not a legit German word so much as something a friend and I made up in German class once. "Carefree despair". When life is so fucked that you can't stop laughing.

Update today! Also, Gwolfski can be both, since we have a mechanic but no way to mine rocks as of yet. Sounds like as good a profession as any.

Also, since I appear to be female, please change my umies' name to LadyBrassroast.

Done.

Sadly, we don't have much of an update. We have sufficient food and shelter, and even some booze for funsies. Noone has yet gotten sick.

However, we have to penetrate the aquifer before we go any further. I have never had much luck with aquifers when coming from above. It always ends in !!FUN!!.

Time to learn.

Additionally, Queen Amperzand has become Adept at the musical form "The Silken Incense". While various other forms are present in their culture, this is easily the preferred form of the time. It is routine for most of the town to gather in the mead hall for performances. She always performs the "Olat", that being the lead part, while another citizen chants along (the other part of the form requires a chanter to accompany the Olat).

Gwolfski Drummedgrips joined the ranks of Humies today as the new proprietor of the Rhyming Lemon Tavern. I hope you also don't mind being female, She was the only one with mechanic skills! I also note that we have room for a performer at the Ol' Rhyming Lemon Tavern, if anyone is interested.

Also, every citizen or family now has their own very small home. We are quite a stable village, but stagnant until we pierce the aquifer.

::EDIT::

I take it back, we do have some notable news. Wolfhunter got his ass kicked by LadyBrassRoast as the result of an argument. I'm not sure what happened exactly. Based on previous evidence I'm starting to think that either our resident Scholar is a dick or everyone else is.

At any rate, his foot was broken. An unskilled citizen had to perform surgery.

You are Groovydog Talonrouted, sole smith of BLAZECOOKS. You have exactly no work to do, since we can't mine, but hey.

Massive influx of migrants! 19 in total, entirely craftsmen! This includes multiple woodcutters, carpenters, masons, weavers.... quite the helpful wave!!! We even got some who were talented in various forms of combat. LadyBrassroast's militia has now reached 10 members.

I am having difficulty piercing this aquifer. It is multi-layer.

This aquifer is over 3z deep.

I will defeat you, groundwater. The crazed ingenuity and dubious working policies of the overseer of Blazecooks knows no bounds. NO BOUNDS.

Have any of you ever had to deal with this before, though? I've never dealt with an aquifer deeper than 2, much less this. What do you recommend?

I suggest pumpstack aquifer piercing.  I have to check my bookmarks at home, there's a video for it somewhere.  But needs a few mechanisms though.

It looks like wiki has an entry, http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/DF2014:Pump-stack_method

Yep, the problem is that we'd have to trade for enough stone, and that could take years.

Instead, I have collapsed around 25% of the town into an enormous artificial sinkhole. This seemed like a reasonable alternative at the time, and is so far working very well. I may need to employ some pumps at what I fervently hope is the final layer, 4z down.

Spoiler: AQUIFER UPDATE (click to show/hide)

ANOTHER UPDATE: I was completely wrong, and somehow managed to find the one 3x3 dry spot in this aquifer. Immediately below is (surprise) more aquifer.

I'm leaving the spoiler pic, because I like it.

Well now, you have some access to stone at least.
