Absolutely no enemies in new release?
« on: December 05, 2015, 05:22:11 am »

I just started a fort yesterday in an area with goblins, but now I am at 200k wealth and I never even got a thief. Only a single werebeast came around, but that was probably just a coincidence. Are you guys getting proper attacks in 42.01?

What's your population? I doubt the population trigger of 80 has changed.
Another thread had a 100 strong invasion with mounts.

Also where are you situated? Is it just you plus a bunch of dark fortresses, or are there plenty of other targets for the goblins to choose from?

Nothing has changed between this version and the last except that:
- Enemies should have mounts
- You can increase the max number of enemies
- The pathing bug that prevented some attacks has been fixed
- Babysnatchers are back

Enemies will attack other places instead of you, will run out of troops attacking other places, will get attacked and have to defend themselves instead of attacking you. No attacks are going to be generated out of thin air to keep you amused. None of this is going to get any more Fun until Scenarios probably.

In the meantime, adjust your population siege trigger, play with worldgen to increase goblins, replace goblins with minotaurs or whatever you need to meet your combat needs.

I'm not at 80 yet, but even so at 200k created wealth shouldn't I see at least thieves and ambushes after more than 2 years? I have gold blocks everywhere.

Are goblin ambushes back now? if so, then yeah you should probably see some. Although no-one seems to have reported seeing any yet.

Does your world actually have any kobolds? Some embarks (in this and the last version) get several thieves a year.

Same here.
Kobolds come by each year to try and steal a few things, but other than that, nothing.

I know my world has goblins nearby, but they seem to be dying off or enslaved.
Is it the same in your world?

I've had plenty of thieves, and my current fort just had a goblin snatcher try to grab a child (forbidden doors ftw). I think it's still one of those things where the pathing has to be taken into consideration. The population is probably also still a thing...

I have noticed I'm getting a LOT less werebeasts this time, which I am honestly grateful for ;;

Protip: statues cannot be made out of wood unless they're artifacts. If you see what appears to be a wooden statue outside your fort and it's not an artifact, destroy it immediately.

I got two 60+ sieges so far, one in 2nd year's winter and another in following spring. With mounts, trolls, even ogres, whom I have never seen until now. Also forgotten beast and a snatcher. I guess you are just unlucky.
EDIT: Just got a desert titan later in the spring. This update is brutal.

Here's a 42.01 siege after I hit 80 population.  I had two sieges of "A vile force of darkness!" prior to that, and it's year 106 in that save game.
Intentionally, I set the limit for Titan attacks to 100, so I would never get them, as my population limit has a strict cap of 81 and a target cap of 80.  The point of this particular game was to test to see if a long standing bug is still in 42.01, and it is, but the siege mechanic is working the same or better vs. 40.24, imo.

Got my first 42.01 real gob siege on the 3rd year of my fortress, still take a lot of time for them to come in comparison to how fast military are trained without using any exploit like the danger room (got some weapon lord since year 2 by only sparring ! ) , the weak first siege was +/-35 gobs and a few traitor dwarves that attacked stood absolutely no chance.

One of my weapon lord took 15 of them all by himself.

The siege system very likely need some tweaking.

I never saw any gob ambush on that fort, a thief came at some point though.

I haven't been able to make it past the first winter without the game crashing.

I did see a kobold once during the first summer, though.

I've had a few different forts in a few different worlds and I haven't seen any kobolds or goblins either (aside from a few goblin tavern visitors). Hoping to see some soon

Edit: About a half hour after I wrote this I got a few kobolds. There's hope!

Has anyone been attacked by human or elf armies yet? They seemed to be more missing than the goblins in the last version.
Tried testing this earleir playing in a world where we started out already at war with elves. Alas, some kids decided to socialise just after I saved which pretty much destroyed that embark.

The pathing bug that was breaking sieges was fixed in 40.01, remember they still need to be ABLE to get to you though and they need to be active a grey goblin fortress is essentially abandoned.
Purple is what you need.
Also, people on reddit have reported many more sieges in this version.
