finding cave rivers
« on: May 21, 2008, 09:30:00 pm »

When you select your embark location, are underground rivers listed?  I wanted to camp on a volcano, so I found one, but no river was listed.  Is there a chance to find one, or are my dwarves just gonna have to live off booze solely?

Also, do ponds and things replenish, from rain and such?  Just a thought.

If you run Regional Prospector while looking for a location, underground rivers will show up nicely.

I've not had drained ponds replenish, however in adventure mode they will refill if you visit a site.  So my farming area was flooded because it was partially built from two ponds that were later roofed (how the water got in I don't know.)

Rain does currently not refill ponds or lakes, I believe.

Um - there is one case where it will refill - if you are in a cold region where water freezes, a half empty pond full of 3/7 water will be full of 7/7 water once the water freezes to ice then thaws back out.

Thanks for the info, though it's kind of a moot point now.  I built some magma furnaces, a fire imp crawled out and killed half my dwarves.  The fifth died of thirst after blocking himself into a craftsdwarf workshop.  Ah well.  At least I'll use that prospector utility next time.

Wow, one imp? You know how to draft dwarves, right?

Well, if they're gathered relatively close together, one fire cone from an imp will tear them right apart. S'why I just like war dogs.

I love the idea of a wrestler dwarf throwing himself through the fire to throw a punch...

Urist Austin, Axedwarf.  A dwarf barely alive.  Gentledwarves, we can rebuild him. We have the technology. We have the capability to build the world's first bionic dwarf. Urist Austin will be that dwarf. Better than he was before. Better, stronger, faster.
