the best general use doctrine seems to be Superior Firepower?
I've been using SF so far and it seems really good. GBP not so much, though to be fair I didn't really get to test it much before losing a civil war.

In other news, apparently Belgian intelligence needs to work on their arithmetic:

Hard science is like a sword, and soft science is like fear. You can use both to equally powerful results, but even if your opponent disbelieve your stabs, they will still die.

Is this infantry division going to work well?

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

It's expensive as hell, but it has 3-4 times more firepower than the default design, for the same amount of manpower. Manpower is a problem.

And the combat width is nice. I can fit three of them in a space of 60.

I'd say cut the AT guns unless you're facing heavy heavy armour. You need one at most imho. Heck, if you're not facing anything bigger than light tanks, cut them out and just leave the support battalion AT in, and maybe add some support AA and you're good to go against most armour threats, plus you get a bonus against enemy air support wrecking your shit.

It's not bad, but you're going to need a fuck ton of industry to produce all the arty/AT you'll need.

Such industrial capacity should be geared towards Mechanized Infantry + Panzers instead. Unless you are fighting in mountains.

I tried a mechanized/tank path, and it didn't work too well. I attacked a tiny german province, and the fight was going for months. They were rotating troops and gave me 20k casualties for just that fight. I had full air support too.

This time I'm bringing some big guns.

From what little I seen the game makes tanks so expensive that you never quite get the Tank numbers you did in the actual World War.

With your people outnumbering total ordinances by huge margins in typical play.

Though in most games it is the reverse. Where for some reason the number of vehicles to infantry are reversed.

Tanks do seem quite hard to come by, BUT, I confess I have yet to play as a Major Power.

Yeah, in my German game I ended up having tank divisions that were 90% light tanks because it just wasn't worth it for mediums and heavies, whereas if you use the classifications from the game, the IRL German tank forces were mostly comprised of mediums and heavies. But my light tank fleets took me across Russia and the US so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Didn't have an issue with numbers though, most of my armies were about half infantry/specialists (mountaineers etc), a quarter mechanized/motorized and a quarter tanks.

Does anyone know why France starts with a -19k infantry equipment stockpile?  The tooltip claims the deficit comes mainly "from reinforcement" but I'm not sure what that specifically means.

You misspelled seance.  Are possessing Draignean?  Are you actually a ghost in the shell? You have to tell us if you are, that's the rule

I believe that means your infantry require 19k inf. equipment to get to fully supplied.

Or to rephrase, the divisions you start with in the field are not fully mobilized.

Fuck, by the time they're all fixed up the war is going to be started :/  Well probably not, France starts with a lot of civilian infastructure and terrible military factories, I'm going to be using one to produce the other so that should speed things up.

Is it worth it to convert civilian factories to military factories?  I'm thinking no, but I'm preparing for the worst and that might be a necessary sacrifice.  Do you at least get 3 military factories if you convert a civilian factory?

It's only really worth it if you're desperate during wartime, or if you're building up for war and not meeting your needs.

The main French army starts almost fully equipped (Weapons I), so no need to worry about it.

It's the colonial troops that all have Basic Equipment. You probably don't need to fully equip them before the war starts.
