On one hand, being chaotic renders us unable to take the Rainbow Servant prestige class

On the other, I want to mess with the plot.

Aye.

We're voting to return to save our mother, right?

Also, guys, what's our first-level feat going to be?

I'm leaning towards Versatile Spellcaster, but I would also vote for Necrotic Cyst (get a spell that sticks tumors inside of people, then get more that do things like scry on the infected, detonate them, or mind-control them forever).

Cerebrosis doesn't take up a feat slot (it's acquire via a ritual, and gives you a point of CON damage when you get it) and gives you some Lovecraftian spells (summon stuff from the Far Realms!).

I think versatile spellcaster will be more useful in the long run and necrotic cyst for one i have no idea who would have taught us that and I'm not sure why our character would use it roleplay wise so I say.
Versatile spellcaster

Perhaps we can just let it develop naturally, instead of powergaming. I don't know, that's just me.

Spoiler: Author's Note (click to show/hide)

Back for mom

The situation looks bad. But you manage to muster enough courage to go back to where you left your mother. She is your only family, you can't just leave her like that, even if she ordered you to do so. You quickly turn, trying to go back. (Survival Roll: 2+1d20=18)

It isn't hard for you to find your way to the edge of the forest. There you can see that some armed men and women of different races. (Knowledge: Local Roll: 7+1d20=24) You identify them as members of the Iron Helms, a mercenary group that operates on Tincodôr and its surroundings. Their uniforms leave little doubt about that. A little further away you see your mother, being held down on her knees by two mercenaries, in front of a hooded person. It is difficult to tell from where you stand, but it looks like, aside from a few cuts, your mother is fine. She was probably just forced to use all her spells. Sheer numbers tend to do that to wizards. It seems like the hooded figure is talking to your mother.

(Listen Roll: 4+1d20=20) From your position, you can't hear the conversation, you would have to get a little closer, although that would be risky. On the other hand, though, maybe if you heard what was being said, you would be able to understand what the hell is happening right now. Saving your mother is important to you, but if she was defeated, what can you hope to do? You have to be careful, or else you might end up being captured... Or worse.

While you are thinking about this, a couple of mercenaries get close to you. It seems they are just going to the edge of the forest to... Relieve themselves. They are really close to you, but it seems they are focused on their own business. Due to the short distance between them and you, you are able to overhear their conversation.

"Hey man... I'm sorry about your brother."
"Don't be... He knew what he was getting into. And besides, he was an idiot. Who charges against a wizard like that?"
"Yeah... So... Are all jobs like this? Because this was pretty weird. We had to capture this woman and now we have to find her daughter..."
"No. This was quite unusual. Weirdest thing I've seen. I mean, we've worked for the man before... And it was always something out of the ordinary... But this? I don't think my wife would look at me again if she knew what I have to do."
"I know what you mean... The girl must be like what, fifteen or sixteen?"
"I got a boy that age, kid... I just hope someone else finds her. Wouldn't want to kill her."
"Me neither... I wonder, what could a girl that young have done to have someone wanting to kill her?"
"You'd better not ask him. In this proffesion, the less you ask about a job, the better. Now let's go kid, if the captain finds out we took a little break from our duties, he'll be mad."

Well... At least now you know that they want something from you... Your life. As the two mercenaries go back to the camp, you start to think about your options... This is certainly not going to be easy.

It's not-

Well, what is your optimization level, then?

I'm going to assume that we have Silent Spell.

Cast a Silent Message at our mother, and ask what is going on.

Plan:
1. Walk a little bit away, and cast Disguise Self, to look like a member of the Iron Helms (not anyone specific).
2. Get close to our mother.
3. Cast a Color Spray directly upwards while telling our mother to close her eyes (via a the Silent Message spell we cast earlier) (Color Spray has the (Pattern) tag, meaning that affects all who see it. We're immune to (Patterns) because we are undead, so we don't have to shield our eyes).
4. Get out of dodge (with our mother).

May you please post a character sheet so that Bay Twelve can inspect it?

I posted the link to the sheet on the third post yesterday.

And if you are going to insist that going for certain feats/PrCs that the character can't know they exist is not powergaming, then I'd have to kindly ask you to look for another game.

My level of optimization, for a game like this, is trying to stay in character. Which I understand is difficult when it is a suggestion game, but I believe is not asking for that much.

I think I've located the problem.

From the definition you've given me, I think you want me to stop meta-gaming (or just pre-planning the character; I can't tell which). I'll stop, because it's bothering you. Thank you for letting me know.

When I asked for a character sheet, I meant a fully fleshed out one (feats, skills, saves, etc.), not just our stats. Sorry for the confusion.
