So.... I'm wondering if there are conditions for having no/few visitors.  Since that is just what happened in my last fort.

On the embark screen, I have every civilization within diplomatic range.
My civ was at war with one human civilization.
My civ is a dead civ, conquered and scattered by those humans.
I am within range of that human civilization, I made sure of the War thing, but... it was at the edge, between them and the gobbos.  (The gobbos did show up.)
Tavern and Temples set... plus a Library with no scholars or books.
Embark location is calm and half good/half normal.

I've had maybe 1 or 2 visitors show up at most, but nothing more.

EDIT: Oh yea, 500 years into the world.  I might have gone overboard with world gen at 25k max pop and 2500 sites...  Hours.  Admittedly, I did try bigger and longer...  it crashes after its finally done...

I haven't had ANY visitors, but I'm doing a dawn of time fort. It's year 06, I'm sure those adventurers will start up soon.
