Bug Collection Thread, 2016, links to Bugtracker within
« on: December 01, 2015, 06:53:52 pm »

I am well aware that the bug tracker exists. However, What does NOT exist is a collection of all bugs so that players could view them.  With the new version, I wanted to create this thread. This thread is NOT to report bugs, but to VIEW them, and any possible solutions.

So, lets all share stores of drunken bastards bugging out, and crashing the universe!

I don't get crashes when placing civilizations. Instead it hangs for me, using up a CPU core.

Did you report it, and post a save?

I can't even get the game to run on my Mac in the first place. Is that a bug, or something more profound?

I cannot post a save because the world is not created. Perhaps with advanced world-gen it might be possible to create a reproducible seed. I have not yet reported it.

I tried the linux version and the window version using wine. both have the same error, repeatedly. I did eventually manage to generate a couple worlds.

PTW. I also get the worldgen bug, but it seems rare enough that it's not a problem.

I also can't get it to run on a Mac (OS version is 10.11.1).  In the Terminal window, it gets as far as saying "Resetting textures"; then it sits forever, with a "dwarfort.exe" process spinning forever consuming about 60% of a CPU.

There is a "README.osx" file which mentions a need to have several libraries installed; if these aren't standard in OS X I probably don't have them installed (I've upgraded both the computer and the OS since the last time I played DF, and I now see that the previous version doesn't run either).

AHA!  I see a recommendation on the wiki page for DF2014 to edit data/init/init.txt to change PRINT_MODE from 2D to STANDARD, and that did the trick.
I'll try updating the SDL libraries as the wiki page suggests as an alternative later...

[And then slammed into the hang at "Placing civilizations..."  Whee!]

Alright, I've played the new version. Played on both Mac and Windows.

OSX has Worldgen no-go due to the bug where the worldgen just hangs on placing civilisations. I managed it on windows, but still had problems due to the placing civilisations hang.

Started a fortress, ran into a reproducible crash after the first migration wave. I think it happens when the new migrant dwarves start to talk or listen to visitors, as I have a few in my tavern right now telling stories. It's the first summer of the game.

Incidentally it happens guaranteed, but if you lock the tavern door so the migrants can't enter, it doesn't happen and the games continues to run without issue (so far). They do happen to listen to visitors.

Worldgen was fine for me, but I got a crash sometime in the second (I think) month of my new fortress. No migrants. I've no idea what caused it- possibly something having to do with charcoal or smelting, or building walls? I wasn't able to get a save before it crashed, unfortunately, so I'm not reporting it because I have no earthly idea how to reproduce it. Anyone else getting crashes in fort mode?

@Footjob, you can microwave most grains I've tried pretty easily through the microwave, even if they aren't packaged for it.

Yeah, I can't get past world generation. It hangs with a core stuck spinning like it does for King Mir. This is Ubuntu 15.04/64. :(

There's the reproducible crash I referred to, if you block (forbid) the staircase door in my save to the tavern, you don't get a crash and some jobs cancel. If you leave it unlocked, it crashes in a few seconds when the migrants pile in.

Where does it hang? As I recall, I saw problems in Debian when it was placing civs. However, I had a world I gen'd in Windows, which I wanted to play, anyway. I copied that over and had no problems playing from there.
