Dance at soldiers and get dozens of companions. Heh.

That's about in the middle in terms of how many allies you can get. The limit seems to be 15-17 troupe members, compared to (in order) a variable yet typically minimal number of rescued goblin prisoners, maybe 2-3 traditional companions, a variable yet theoretically massive number of refugees from a soon-to-be-invaded town, and finally a damn near limitless number of reanimated friends.

Fu k me, worldgen crashed at year 1050. But I think I had unintentionally used my previous world's history, name and creature seeds when I only meant to use the world seed, so I probably would have restarted anyway. Started again, saw the familiar map of a realm now called 'The Windy Planets'. The last iteration of this world was called 'The Windy Lands'. I can confirm that the name seed was set to random.

Despite rerolling the history seed, I expect this to be yet another world with a high density of vampire population. I'm curious how their historical behavior may differ.

If you have high fame you can get up to 10ish traditional companions.

Hmm. But how does one get fame? All my exploits, and all my rumor-spreading of it, and I've never been able to get more than 2 companions in DF2014. ;w;

you tell a bunch of people about your good kills, even if they say "it was inevitable" you will still get the fame. (and tell your would be companions persaonally just to be sure) before recruiting them.

SO MUCH VOMIT!

It stays when you travel too, that's permanent!

I use this instead of regular parchment mats atm because I've gotta work those back into the templates properly.

Code: [Select]

[HAS_MATERIAL_REACTION_PRODUCT:TAN_MAT]
[PRODUCT:100:3:SKIN_TANNED:NONE:GET_MATERIAL_FROM_REAGENT:A:TAN_MAT]
[SKILL:TANNER]

Then these all work as expected except the paper I am still tinkering with and I am sure it will work but haven't yet made a book, I keep forgetting to add the book binding item reaction.

Ugh, you gotta replace the cleaned bone items too, I'm sleepy but I'll do it later if you haven't yourself. They're a hacky tool workaround I used for the stack of bones problem before, haven't fully tested if it is fixed yet actually...

Still testing these but I think they won't explode and leave you buried under 10,000 sheets anymore... and yes that can happen, I haven't tested the book one but you get the general idea. I tried to get parchment to work but it was fucking up so I just hacked in the hide trick until I figure it out better.
Alright thanks, gonna try to edit it myself, hopefully it won't end up horribly glitchy.
Can't you fix the 10,000 sheets thingy and similar glitches by adding a small rock to the reagents, btw? Kind of a dumb solution but it seems to work.

I tried to get rid of the need for 10,000 dimension sheets by putting 1 sheet in one place and didn't in all... and then wound up buried in an endless pile of sheets.

Or, you know, skip the use of real sheets like I did. >w>

Basically remarking on the fact that I was being lazy about not telling every single potential companion every rumor available.

What are "good" kills? Bandits certainly aren't, as by killing them you get labeled as a killer or murderer.

Titans work. Even if they're push-over blobs of steam. Tell everyone about the titans you've vanquished and you'll soon be a living legend.

The reason for this is, that the entity-list isn't updated to the point, that, as soon as someone becomes a criminal to said civ, he is labeled as enemy (prior to 0.40 this was the case) and the entry "former member" doesn't mean anything to anyone.
You could tell someone who isn't part of the civ of the dead bandit.
He won't call you murderer.
He won't spit.
But he will not care either.

you're best off killing beasts than bandits just so you don't piss off someone who formally known that person.
or just play music as that's another solution to getting fame.

Suddenly, I hope that someday there will be a new race of animal men. The Beaver Man...
