Okay, just to confirm - seems like mods that allow you to tan hides and make stuff out of them no longer work on sentient corpses as well.

You heard me, I butchered some gobbo bandits, tried to tan their skin, nope, can't do that. Tried to use their bones to make crafts, nope, doesn't work either.

You heard me, I butchered some gobbo bandits, tried to tan their skin, nope, can't do that. Tried to use their bones to make crafts, nope, doesn't work either.

We'll probably have to wait a few weeks before the mods get updated, as usual.
The worst part is having to play in ASCII, it does have it's unique feeling to it, but in my opinion it's just unclear.

What if you mod goblins to be playable as native dark fortress members?

I think it's not about them getting updated though. You can't eat sentient meat either, if you kill i.e a goblin bandit and butcher them you get the organs and stack of 15 meat as usual, but trying to eat any of the organs or meat gives you the "you lick" message instead of eating it, so it's probably an ethics issue.

EDIT: Nope, even if you start as a dark fort gobbo you can't eat people.

Wouldn't surprise me if Toady exported standard Dwarf ethical limitations to all civs as part of the ethics interactions.

I made a rock demigod. Singer+stringed instruments. I wrote a song, The Friendship Fungi, that has been a huge success in my village. Everyone is talking about it and singing it (horribly)!

Centaurs are modded, the horses and jaguars being playable isn't though; although I think they may be the result of animal uprisings, similarly to how trolls fight goblins in their own forts.
