I would be extremely happy if someone could point out how to make canyons... in early 3d you could find some amazing canyons with sheer (no ramps) cliffs of 4-20 z levels. I really would like to gen a world that has those, but I cant seem to get world gen to do it. I turned errosion cycles to 0 and periodic errosion off but didnt seem to affect hills at all.

As anyone found in 0.42 or 0.40 a way to prevent the bad thoughts for not having clothing? Does a personality trait helps with that?
Doesn't value decorum, low vanity, low immodesty (since high immodesty makes them want to wear fancy clothing).
Will that actually stop the bad thoughts? Or just make them not as bad?

I'm back with some SCIENCE for you.

Setting BASHFUL to 0:0:0 make them 'not feel anything' from being covered. They can value decorun and be extravagant with this setting, it does not conflict.

Setting it low (25) will make them embarassed with only a minor convenience.

And come to think of it, with these new emotion and personality affectors plus the previous skill changes, the effects of pretty much every drug from weed to LSD to antipsychotics could be created. The only thing missing is how addictive the effect would be.

I have a civilization that's set to be the only one of its kind in each world, but it nearly universally seems to get crushed be either monsters or other civs (who aren't even near as well equiped) by the year 15, if that, and if it does appear noticeably past a few decades, it hardly ever grows any further. How do I make my civ more survivable? Messing with biomes seems to be having very little effect

Ah, no, your syntax is off.  You have to put the word EMOTION in, then the tag would be the emotion itself.

[SYN_NAME:sugar rush], so you could customize the source of said emotions. I honestly feel that this opens up alot of new possibilities for flavor text in interaction modding.

Urist felt lonely due to being alone for an extended period of time. (LOS check)
Urist felt grim satisfaction due to raising a corpse. (Animation)
Urist felt indignation due to the presence of elves. (Target self + elves)
Urist felt grumpy due to the fortress lack of hygiene. (Cleaning interaction)[/spoiler]

Niiice.  I'm excited for 'He felt glumness/gloom/dismay/despair due to spending time underground' in order to encourage above-ground living for non-dwarves.

to be entirely honest, I barely even play. the creation aspect is far more enjoyable for me, I just play enough to make sure my creations work the way i wanted. It was actually bad timing for one of my projects, as i have to significantly redo it, haha

Hmm... how would you go about normally giving dwarves a permanent syndrome? I usually do it through self-targeting interactions, but I'm worried about the possible fps loss they may incur when they keep spamming the interaction eventhough they're already under it.

If the interaction cannot target if already affected, this shouldn't be an issue.  Also, creatures use interactions much less often now.
Alternatively, you could add it as an effect of a secretion.  This might not work so well for dwarves, though, since you'll either have to wait until the first time they cry/sweat or add a new substance that they constantly secrete.  (Internal organs can secrete stuff too, but I'm not sure if it will wash off when they get wet.)

So, next question...does the severity multiply the normal effects of the emotion, or is it a straight value?
For instance, if GLOOM is normally twice as bad as GLUMNESS, does that mean that GLUMNESS with a severity of 100 is equal to GLOOM with a severity of 50?

Does putting the syndrome into the blood work? Or otherwise you can add it to alcohol since they are bound to drink some. Last option is to add it as a GREETING interaction so as soon as you have 2 dwarves (ie right at the start), you're getting it started.

No. Putting it in the blood will give it to vampires who drink from them, but not to the dwarves whose blood it is (unless they get injured and bleed on themselves and it's a contact syndrome).
