((Them knowing of our existence helps them only a tiny bit if one decides to do a sneak attack.

For example we could use our stealth based characters [of which we have two I think] to go at the back and deal with the ranged ones while us grunts suddenly charge head on, creating confusion, EVEN if they were expecting it.

Or something similar. By negotiating we're putting most if not all of our characters right in front of plain view of them. And if they're not even willing to hear us out, they'll simply attack, giving them the first move.))

((Given our utter distrust of them, they aren't going to get a surprise round on us anyway.

As an aside, I'm really surprised that Pathfinder rates lycanthropes so low on the challenge scale. DR 10/silver is freaking amazing at low levels... or really any time until +3 weapons start becoming a normal thing or people don't have access to silver or don't know they need it. If we ever get to having companions, I want a werebear in full plate. Stupid high AC AND amazing damage soak? yes please.))

((Again, most magic attacks won't save them, and with cantrips allowing damage from wizards and sorcerers, it's expected to be able to deal with one. You're supposed to be dealing with several of them, because they do tend to be in packs

And unless you mean for everyone else, you mean Bjorn or someone from the Earth-shakers, Varg is the only one who will probably help you))

((By Varg and the others I meant Varg and the rest of our colonization expedition. We did contextually talk about that a few posts back from what I remember.))

((Oh, James is still 100% against bringing the militia along, they simply won't be able to contribute and they're less able to defend themselves then the PCs and companions.))

((They're not for fighting though. What I meant was to bring everybody along so they could start setting up the camp. The only ones going to meet the wererats are us characters. What Arioch was asking was whether it was wise to bring everybody to do that.))

((Considering that they don't have any armor, yeah, they're kind of squishy. I'll leave you guys to decide this while we pick up Varg, because I know you guys agreed on that))

The party gets back on the longship and Martijn can no longer see the figures in the shadows. You make your way, quite quickly due to the slight current, towards Varg's village. You get to the river closest to it and start walking. You walk into the wood and towards his village, where you see people continuing to do labor and Varg is helping with some heavy lifting. He greets you and walks over to you after he finishes his task.

"It is good to see you again! What brings you back here so soon?"

Martijn steps forward and bows with a flourish to the big man, coming up with a customary grin.

Oh, nothing much friend. Scouting the land, sailing the waters. Spotting enemies...

He eyes Ritki and coughs slightly.

...or potential allies.

Want to come for a trip? A bit more muscle with us may save our skins from those rat-folk from the caves.

"They are tedious to deal with, even when fighting them with equipment such as your own. I will gladly come along, as I do owe you, Martijn, for saving my life. Let me grab my axe and I will accompany you."

He runs to what you assume to be his house and comes out with his harness on and his axe strapped to it.

"Lead the way, my good friend."

((Alright, I'm going to force a decision right now. I'll put it up as a poll, and I'll act on it after you've said your piece. Varg and Ewan will refrain from putting in their two cents and voting, but feel free to ask the ten others on what they think. I put up what I saw were suggestions. And by "deal with" I mean either diplomacy or attacking them, depending on what the party decides))

EDIT:
((Because I'm an idiot and set "can't see results until you vote", I set my vote to other, so ignore that if you're expecting someone to post an alternative))

Martijn claps him on the back when he returns, and starts leading the way back to the ship. He whistles a well known tune about promiscuous women as he goes.

((A majority vote has been reached))

You make your way back upstream with Varg. He has never seen a boat, and is already confused by the contraption. The crew are still a little terrified of him, but ease up and try to hold in chuckles as he starts to panic a bit as the ship begins to move once the anchor is removed. Ewan, again, steers the longship upstream with the rudder while you go upstream. When you get to where the river splits off, you continue back towards the plains after some discussion.

Varg can't help but enjoy himself after getting use to the boat ride, and eventually, you make it to the plains again and disembark.

Going up ahead and scouting (3+4) (James) (CRIT) (Ritiki) (11+1) (Arioch) (9+6) (Martijn) (?) (Ewan) (?) (Varg) Ritiki spots the figures and sees them perfectly, spotting them before they spot the party. There seems to be three of them, all having weapons, two of them carrying stone blades as big as a small shortsword. They're all humans with thin features. You also spot two dire rats nearby them, who seem to be fully aware of what they're saying.

You have a minute or two to make your move before they spot all six of you

Ritiki carefully whispered to the rest of the party. "Okay gentles, this is it. Shall I step out and say hello, or are we going to try to ambush these men? If we charge them swords swinging, we can say farewell to any chance at peace with these weres."

James shrugs his shoulders, settling his armor and checking the straps on his buckler. He responds quietly to the question.  "I'm still in favor of trying to talk to them before we get to killing each other."

((Edit for the below: Hope you're not counting OOC posts. As it is, I'll hold off on saying anything further to give Martijn, Ewan and Varg their chance to get their two coppers in.))

"Except for you and I, Ritiki, as many of us need to stay hidden if possible and maybe even circle. By drawing attention to ourselves we might give them that freedom."

The figures continue to talk, but one kind of glances around.

You got a couple seconds to make the final decision!

((Three more posts before you blow your element of surprise))

EDIT:
((Due to confusion and a few startled messages from a player, you are confirmed on the plain close to the wood, but not hidden yet))
