How do we deal with the wererats?

Martijn casts an indolent smile in Arioch's direction.

Told you so.

Arioch sighs quietly in preparation.

"There seem to be a great many things you do not know. But yes, Martijn, that will suffice for now."

Mauricio has more important things to do than length introductions, so he keeps them short. They sweep their impressive hat off of their head and give everyone a bow. "Greetings everyone! I am Mauricio Del Bosque, a student at the University of Badsei, member of the Order of the Closed Circle, and a lowly searcher of knowledge. Unlike everyone else assembled my motivations are much more selfish. I am merely here to scout new continents, discover interesting creatures, and eventually publish my findings back in Badsei. But until then I would be happy to assist in any manner which I can." Modestly he continues, "I am not a poor hunter, and have some knowledge in tracking and surviving in the wilderness. Additionally I have studied medicine, anatomy, natural history, religion and many more subjects at the University. Although I am no great professor, I hope that my meagre knowledge may be of some use to you all." Anyone who had spent the journey on the same ship as him would note that he could create water out of thin air, but he doesn't mention that as if it's not important.

Mauricio also keeps silent on the matter of Varg and the indigenous clans of the area for now. It was not his place to offer his opinions to these colonists since he would not be settling down with them. As far as he could tell their judgements were sound and needed no corrections.

((I'm sorry. I'm starting to pick up now, so I shouldn't leave you all waiting in the future. The past couple of days have been pretty low on energy for me.))

((No problem. As I've been saying, its been a nightmare the past little bit for me as well, so I've had minimal energy myself. Unfortunatley, I have to power through it to keep things like this and other things up and running))

Ewan nods, and then stands next to Varg as he gestures him to move in the cave more before he announces to everyone else.

"Everyone, this is Varg. He is our guest for the night. We will welcome him, as he too, is far from home and he seeks our hospitality. We will treat him like Kain treated us when we looked to flee our lands: welcoming, fairly and equally.

And this to you too, Varg. We will treat you as you treat us. You show honor and I respect your honesty.

As for the rest of you, get something in your systems and then meet with me by the cave entrance when you're finished."

The party (and the rest of the caves) take to the meat happily, as being at sea, they only get heavily preserved meat of the salted varieties. The mood seems more uplifting. (??) Varg seems to slowly work into talking with others who aren't part of the party and they seem to receive him well, as those who he spoke to are native to Jurgenholm (the herbalist and his friends) share similar values of honor. They seem to warm up to him more than he warms up to them, but that isn't saying much since both sides are terrified of one another still. One of the two children (Arthur) seems to try and play with Corellia after the meal, and the other child, Connor, seems to be quite shy compared to Arthur, clinging to his mother's side (Arthur being 5 years old, Connor being 6 years).

Ewan meets up with the party again after the meal (this includes Kylie and Varg).

"Now, we have a few things we need to do, but since every one of you, save Varg, are best suited for it, I need to rely on you to help me with this. Varg needs to be escorted back to his home when he feels it to be ready. I also want to be there when he goes, so I can see the way myself.

There is also the matter of finding another place for us to start to settle down, which right now, we need to scout out more in the spot where you found Varg, or where the giant animals were.

The next situation is looking for stranded survivors who got separated from us. I don't think everyone made it, but I have a hope that if we made it, others surely did. They may even be a few more days out, so we will have to still be vigilant of the shores. And even then, others may start coming this way when other nations get word of us coming here, and they may very well want to either help us, take from us, or in the case of one crusade we all loathe, remove us from existence.

And of course, we have to think of those who were here before us; Varg and his people, the Night-Stalker Clan, and the others. I don't know what to think of them, but I would like to hope there are others who are willing to cooperate with us like Varg has. I will leave that for when we seek an audience with his elders.

I would like to hear suggestions of what you would prefer to do. It doesn't have to be those I presented to you here, but I will ask the group of you do decide on what to do."

"Believe that first thing we must do is come to some agreement with weretribes. Without some sort of negotiated treaty we will not be able to build new settlement without always fear of attack. Can't stay in cave forever, already getting crowded and we need to grow crops, raise animals."

"I agree with Ritiki. Forging a treaty with the natives is sure to increase both trade and our security. On that note I think Ritiki and I are all that is needed, however you can join in if you so wish though it may not be the best option. Finding a place to settle down is slightly more important than that though. I believe it to be wise to send the bulk of us scouting and maybe clearing up a place. We all know that needs the largest chunk of our fighting force."

Martijn idly tosses his quarterstaff from hand to hand, listening in to the conversation casually.

James leans against the tunnel wall where they're discussing, arms crossed and looking at ease. "I think it'd be best to consult with Varg on that. That you and Ritiki are the most suited here to discuss trade and alliances isn't in question, but the willingness of the tribes to listen is. I think Varg's own tribe might well hear us out, especially if we help return Varg to them safely, but the White-Fangs and the other werewolf tribe might not be so open to sweet reason."

James pauses and cocks his head. "That said, if I'm not needed there as muscle, it'd probably be best if I deal with tasks that don't take me too far away from the survivors. If the troglodytes do send back an emissary, unless he speaks Common, I'm the only one who can even talk with him or her.

That reminds me... Varg? Have your people had dealings with the lizardmen that live in this area? They've talked of being attacked by both werewolves and weresharks, but that's their side of the story. If your tribe has fought against them, I'd like to know the reasons."

"My clansmen and I rarely ever go beyond the marsh. I know of some lizard folk, but they're quite hostile, and they are far beyond the marsh. They wouldn't be ones to talk either, so perhaps this is another clan you have discovered?"

Martijn gets distinctly bored and shifts from foot to foot restlessly. He sees a fair face in the crowd and weathers the meeting, but when it's over sidles up to her, smiling roguishly as he does. Casually leaning on his staff, he engages her in conversation with a decidedly flirtatious tone.

I noticed your Roc on our sea journey, and I must say I would have called it the most beautiful thing I'd ever seen had I not seen you earlier.

((Crummy line but good charisma, go go go!))

((Heh, so Martijn is the playa, Mauricio is the professor, James is the mercenary, Ritiki is the merchant and Arioch is the diplomat. We're definitely from a wide range of backgrounds and character types!

Also, don't skip to the next day right after the meeting ends, James also has stuff he wants to do before bed.))
