James nods his agreement "But I'm not jumping off the boat onto anything less then solid land, this time." he adds with a faint smirk.

((After the meeting, James is going to inspect Mauricio. You mentioned it was a Knowledge: Arcane check to see if we can figure out a bit about what's going on with him?))

At this statement, Ewan gives a confused look and Kylie holds back a laugh and holds back a smile as her face kinda scrunches up at your half-joke.

((Just need to hear from Ritiki and Martijn on their votes on this))

Martijn nods his agreement, but is frowning.

Another foray sounds good, but it means I'll have little time to do this.

He goes to Kylie and kisses her on the mouth before she can react, then steps backwards and grins mischievously at her.

((What? We gotta pass the time somehow :P))

Kylie is stunned by your sudden and bold move, caught completely off guard ((as am I)). Ewan gives a light chuckle at this and shakes his head.

"I guess that makes it a majority vote then. I'll have some of the people who are willing to assist us help man the ship."

Ewan breaks off the meeting. ((Gonna skip ahead a bit...))

Over the course of the night, you have gone through well over half of your food stores with the giant badgers.

James goes over to Mauricio and checks him out. (17+2) (Knowledge: Arcana) You have never heard or seen of anything like this, but, in the sense of arcane magic, it doesn't seem to negatively effect him other than the fact he appears emotionless and empty.

The night passes ((Sorry Martijn, I'll let you know that you really haven't gotten any closer other than that one kiss)) and those who keep watch have nothing to report.

You wake up as light, again, starts to break through the tunnel. The people who volenteered start to help in moving the ship into the water and you prepare to head down the oceans into the rivers. Ewan mans the rudder due to him having sailing experience even prior to leaving for here.

(?) Ewan masterfully steers the ship to the river. (?) When he gets to the river, the longship starts to move in, its hull letting you ride gracefully through the river. The current isn't that strong, but it makes it a little slower to move. You stick close to the shore opposite of the giant's wood. Despite the map's horrid drawing, the river is quite wide and you think you could fit three ships before worrying about getting too close to shore.

When you finally start to see the shore of the plains, you see that it has tall grass and wide open fields. You're pretty convinced that the size of the area is MUCH larger than the map described. Ewan tells the others to slow the ship as you get closer.

"Alright lads, are we going on the shore to look and scout around a bit or should we continue downriver for a bit?"

"Let's get off the boat for a while. Could use a break from rowing upriver before continuing - we can walk around and find good spots to build."

"Yes, let us take a break. Now that we know that the map was in fact incorrect about the size of the plains we must decide."

((Well bollocks. It being at least twice as big as on the map means it'll be hard to get any resources UNLESS we make it a river village and ship resources through the river. Longboats aren't known to be big though so eventually large shipments will be an issue.))

((Shipments from where, though? At the moment there's nowhere to ship from other than the cave, and we can make multiple trips for that.

Besides, the plain being a nice wide area is a good thing. We can grow crops, raise livestock, and still have room to expand.))

((The only good thing about it is exactly what you mentioned. Pastures and crops. But we'll be missing stone and wood. The lumber yards and quarries don't seem to be close to it. That's what I meant by shipments. We can probably ship wood down the river quickly, but eventually the demand will outgrow the supply due to how little wide the river is.

I realize that I'm the one that suggested these plains, but that was exactly because we had space for crops and pastures and caves and woods nearby. With its size being bigger now that makes logistics and a problem. This ain't no megapolis.))

((They aren't twice as big, but it's significantly bigger. You can see the edge of the woods that are around the cave that Ulf mentioned had the unrefined silver, it will definitely take longer than expected to do any logging or mining from the cave

Assuming that it's empty))

You make landfall and you anchor the ship into the river. As James mentioned, you all climb aboard to land and start to survey the area. The grass is about halfway up your shins but slowly withering as it is nearing the autumn months. You can judge from the river to the edge of the wood is roughly 12 miles distance.

The soil is soft, and the light of the sun makes the grass have a slight shine to it. There is some small game that you spot as you start looking, but it darts away as you move.

Though none of you are farmers, you can hazard a guess you could place farms here. There are some small hills every now and then in the area, but not enough to really effect the plains too much.

The shore of the river, however, its a little strange, making it a drop that is a foot over the edge of the boat (5' from the top of the water).

You're on land now. What does the party want to do?

"Well it doesn't seem to be that bad, really. The shore's a bit strange, however it's a natural pier. With a supply line with carts in place I reckon we can get resources from the woods and mine relatively quickly. What would you folk say on the matter?"

"Could see some possibilities here, yes."

Knowledge: Nature. Let's see if there are toxic plants here to worry about. Also use Perception to look for signs of animals.

While Ritiki and Arioch look around for plants and animals, James takes a look at the edge of the river for signs of flooding or anything else that would explain why the edge appears strange.

"I'm wondering if it is natural that the water is running this much lower then the river bank. If it's seasonal, we might have to build with flooding in mind. Otherwise, maybe there are giant beavers damming the river upstream. Either way, logging up stream is as easy as floating the logs downstream tied together as a raft. Mining depends more on where we find metals."
