Thoven nodded at Tessele and slipped out of the alleyway and made is way over to Tirion and Dench as casually as possible.

"We caught a woman beelining her way to the den to deliver food; it's safe to say she's new to this." He shook his head a little as he mentioned the woman; really, how could she think she wasn't obvious? "Anyway, Tessele wanted me to go get the rest of you so here I am, telling you to head down the street and take the second alleyway on your left."

The woman begins the squealer shuffle, saying alot of things while trying not to say anything at all, balancing between the immediate fear and apparent fear.

"Interfering? You tackled me!

..Y..you don't understand! He'll...she'll...ugh...well, it's them, or me...dead anyway...just tell me what you want to know!...I'm not exactly high up in the ranks, you think? I only do what they tell me to do...carry this here, drop this there, stab that, nick something, hide the bloody sack in the culvert...and I don't look inside the bags, you know, I just do what I'm told...curiosity most surely being the number one killer of cats...it's just a 9 to 5 job, like any working woman...it's drudge labor, but it's better than selling my arse on Icepick row*..."
She says, with a perverse sort of pride.

*As charming a city street in Kolos, as you can imagine it is.

"Much better! Thank you! Now, how many people are in there? How well armed are they? How many bolt holes do they have?"

"There's at least fifty...at least...well armed, lots of crossbows and longbows...and claymores and battleaxes...at least seven wizards on the payroll, and a Trollgre who can shoot lightning from his eyes...and, a guard hydra or two...we've got a secret tunnel from the basement that leads right into the Patricians boudoir! He pays us out of pocket to handle problems for him, you know? We have connections in the highest places, we're everywhere-I'm actually a patriot, really-praise Kolos, we raise our flutered glasses to thee!

We're not the Heroes Kolos deserves, but we're the ones it needs right now..."

"Did I say fifty? It's more like 30 or 40, tops. We're a compact, tight knit bandit. We've only got one wizard, and she's sort of old. Everyones got a sword, at least. Mostly small swords, heh heh...also, our leader doesn't have any escape tunnels, because she says we should not be tempted to retreat and we should always fight to the death.

Yeah we're called the...uh, Bulldogs of Despair. It's sort of a joke! Like, hah hah? Because our leader is named Despair. And she treats us like dogs. Though not as good as her own dog. She's really not that imaginative, you know."

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Tessele digs through the bag they confiscated off the courier, and pulls out the wine.
"This is good stuff. I'm not a betting woman, but if I were, I might some serious money on them not letting you drink it. Matter of fact, this is all pretty good food. This cheese is imported!"
Tessele unwraps the elven cheese and takes a deep whiff.
"I was a rookie once too, you know. I know that the boss doesn't let you have the good stuff. You talk, and I'll let you introduce yourself to this cheese while I introduce myself to your friends. Deal?"

The woman blinks like an owl.

"Sure, good deal, great deal, excellent for everyone involved. I could use some wine too...lots of wine...

You mind if I scurry into the shadows like the little harmless mouse I am aferwards? I mean, you can't spare a guard to watch me if you're going in there. You could tie me up, but someone could come along and rob me or worse. There's criminals about, after all. I tell you what you want to know-can't we then just say this is your lucky day, girl-o-get out of here, we'll catch you next time?"
She says, clasping her hands together hopefully.

Tessele mulls it over for a minute. "I think I'm going to cuff you here. Then, me and my friends are going to kick down the door. We'll come right back for you. Of course, if you left something out, we might have to stay inside for a while longer. And, if that something kills me, or my friends... well... let's just remember; no one else knows where you are."

"Yeah...fair enough...there's nothing in there you can't deal with, I'm sure. I mean, there's not even half what I said, and most of them gutter rats like me-we do this so we don't starve to death, we're not soldiers. Despair is worse, though-since she's already rich, but she still does all of it-she's a demon, real killer, a very bad person. She feeds people to giant Monster Dog for fun. While they are still alive. She did that to a few of my friends...like she's gonna do to me now...you should take care of her..." The food delivery thief says morosely, hanging her head while you cuff her in place.

"She's very keen on keeping time, by the way-she's going to wonder why I haven't arrived yet. If you're going to do something, you better no wait too much longer."

Keiran comes round the corner, just catching the end of the exchange.

"Our cover's blown the instant that door opens anyway. I might be able to charm my way past one guard, but against more I'll just have to fall back on my tongue."

Tessele chains up the thief to a handy drainpipe, or other, sturdy object, and turns and walks out of earshot, towards the group.
"Then let's go in hard and fast. No diplomacy, just pain."
Tessele waves the rest of the group over into a huddle.
"Right, here's the deal. There's not more than a dozen in there, most of them aren't fighters. The one we need to worry about is their leader, a woman named Despair. She's a bit tougher, and she's got a dog that likes to eat people. We should be able to clear this quickly; just keep them unbalanced."

"If you don't attack this Despair herself I might be able to make her come quietly."

Keiran flicks his fingers in the air, a habitual gesture when he's talking about his less mundane methods of persuasion.

Either way, I'm ready.

Tessele grunts noncommittally. "Then make your move quickly; if she starts hitting us, we're hitting back."
She straps her baton back on, and, after a quiet internal debate between pike and maul, switches to her maul, resting the hammer on the slippery cobbles.

"Well let's go get this over with then," Thoven said, his hands resting on the hilts of his two swords. He was ready to wrap this up as quickly as possible.
