You know what just occurred to me? We have temples in vanilla DF now. Those poor souls running the Masterwork mod are going to have ssssoooooo much stuff to rework!

(*) Scholars can visit your fortress libraries, bringing knowledge from around the world
(*) Dwarves read books in the library (they don't need to be scholars)
(*) Values can be passed in writing (both modes) and through adventure mode arguments (uses some conversation skills)
Does this mean we want to keep elves out of the library, so that our butchers don't get creative with their mystery-meat roasts?

Yup.
I copied over a 40.24 save, on the (seemingly correct) assumption that it circumvent world-corruption, replaced the raws with the new ones, and kept the old instrument item-files (without which, the save wouldn't load.) So far, it works like a charm.

I got a new version of Dwarf Fortress, such elation I feel!
Urlance Woolsbane is playing make-believe.

So yeah, I dreamed of getting out of bed, and seeing that the new version was out. Fortunately, this was a well-informed dream, so when I actually got out of bed, I did indeed get to download 42.01!

Just one world into the new version, and I've already got a corrupted save! Weeeeeeee!
Use seasonal saves/autobackup option :).

I do that normally (I haven't turned it on for this version yet,) but I don't think it would have helped for this fort. The save corrupted before    I got to Summer.

Just had a human axewoman petition to live in my fort, for the purpose of soldiering! She shows up on my citizens list now as a "mercenary." She's also married with 7 children, so maybe the family will come around.

Edit: Wow, her combat skills are impressive. Her ethics are also quite different from the rest of the fort's and she isn't shy about starting arguments. She absolutely loves needling the tavern-keeper about the foolishness of craftsdwarfship, perseverence, and loyalty, but he's getting kind of salty about it.

Congrats to all of you that are playing with the new features.

I'm having trouble getting my embark wagon unloaded without a crash.  :S

I'll try and see if its persistent+consistent, if it is I suppose I can submit a save...

Edit: Results are inconsistent even with me laying all the designations beforehand, saving, then loading and letting play multiple times.  One of the crashes did occur with 2 dwarves showing the flashing ! icon for terrified, another appeared to occur just after a brief pause in animation  - I'm half wondering if the worldgen problems may be stepping on gameplay with the 'worldgen during gameplay' steps.  - hopefully fixing worldgen will solve the regular gameplay crashes.

Hum... I have an errorlog.txt -  :-\
Code: [Select]
loop path fail: <same square> crundle,171,40,119 -> 165,46,119: Id #16102:Path Goal Seek Station:Station Owner at 175,46,119No timestamp, no 'game started' entries.  Dunno if it relates to any of the crashes (I don't recall seeing any crundles in the embark, just otters and giant grasshoppers), but the gamelog itself is devoid of helpful content (starting new game, loading fortress, starting new game, loading fortress, starting new game, loading fortress...).

Feature request for Toady: Timestamps in the logging?  YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS.sss is what I personally use at work, both the year and the milliseconds have prooved useful to me in my work.

For what it's worth, I got a similar thing, after a crash:
Code: [Select]
path fail: crundle,185,39,89 -> 187,38,92: Id #13041:Path Goal Seek Station Flood:Station Owner at 187,38,92

Cry I had such an INTERESTING game going, with a civ of goblins listed as all the major nobles and everything set up...and now that I had to reboot my PC, I can't get it to load ;~; Gets to Loading Tracking Information and ragequits on me. I am so disappointed! I wanted to see how those nobles would've worked...

Protip: statues cannot be made out of wood unless they're artifacts. If you see what appears to be a wooden statue outside your fort and it's not an artifact, destroy it immediately.

I have to say that this was the smoothest big release ever, and I was around for all of them but the first. Few game breaking bugs, most of the new features working as intended. Great work Toady!
