First off, PTW.

To the mines! Before that, teach the villagers how to do a basic ward (like, silver over doorway basic; don't spend more than five minutes on it).
We're bad at this, but I don't think we're takes five minutes to teach others to do our job bad at this. They probably also don't have a ton of silver lying about.

And yeah, I'd be really surprised if this was it.

If it's not actually a ritual, just a mechanical thing that you do, then sure, that'd be quick to explain. I'm assuming (perhaps optimistically) that most of our druid stuff is stuff you need a (semi) druid to actually do.

Also, Harry Baldman has some rituals from when I made a ritual-focused player in his Kitsune game.

Most people nail a small piece of silver over their door out of superstition to protect their homes from evil spirits, which should be enough to keep them safe inside - you doubt you have to tell them twice. But then why would they need to hide behind the town’s walls at night? Probably just because of panic and fear.

Probably.

Head to the Mine for Jaderoot(hopefully) and Moonhops.

To the mines!

You set out on your way towards the mines, which, you discover, are significantly less impressive than you anticipated. You guess Abhach's economy tends more towards agriculture than metalworking. The rocky, forested terrain seems like an ideal habitat for jaderoot - but then again, jaderoot grows a whole lot of places you wouldn’t expect. You set about looking for it.

It's not too difficult to track down a small bush, sparse though the pickings were. It’s not much, but you can probably squeeze two or three potions out of this - assuming you have other ingredients to amplify the potions' effects with. On it’s own, it looks like you’ll only be able to brew one potion out of the extract.

Moon hops might pose a bit more of an issue to find, but, if there’s anywhere nearby that you would find them, it’d be here. With some hesitation, you delve into the mine.

It’s pretty dark. You take one of the lanterns hanging near the entrance and light it up, providing some measure of illumination. As you wind your way down through the tunnels, you make sure you remember the exact path you took. It’s not too difficult a pattern to remember: follow the main tunnel, occasionally investigate side tunnels, return to main tunnel, repeat.

You pause. As the echo of your footsteps fades, you hear a faint skittering ahead of you fall silent.

...Maybe it was just a rat?

In a burst of noise, the source of the scratching hisses loudly races down a side tunnel, leaving a faintly melodic hum reverberating in its wake.

You’re 90% sure rats don’t make that kind of noise.

You know that the mines aren't abandoned. Whatever that is, it either just moved into the mines or hasn't been enough of a threat to cause problems for the miners.

Time Until Sunset: 1:30
One hour, thirty minutes.

Resources
- Jars x2
- Jaderoot (Enough for one potion. Three with other reagents.)

Locate the rat. Commence diplomacy. If it resists our prowess with words, and is hostile (fleeing is not considered hostile), smack it with tour staff.

smack it with tour staff.

Wait, are we one of those druidic tour guides now? Maybe we should try to capture the abomination for use in safaris.

There's an easy test for predator/prey. Shout at it from there. If it doesn't sound like it's scared into hiding, get away fast.

Sounds smart to me. Smarter than randomly attacking it when we can't even see it.

It has been determined that Trump is an average unladen swallow travelling northbound at his maximum sustainable speed of -3 Obama-cubits per second in the middle of a class 3 hurricane.

On the contrary, DON'T GET AWAY FAST.

Back slowly, using your cloak to make yourself appear as large as possible. If you don't look like easy prey, you don't become easy prey. Make yourself look like something not worth being messed with.
