"Well, now we have a problem. We are either going to have to go public with what it really is, or risk the coverup used being called out, risking the possibility of this restarting all over again."
"... Researcher, you and ten Grunts are to inspect if the anomaly has affected the children in any way. If it has not, return them to their families ASAP. No need to piss off the public we are assigned to protect. Take your time on this, and try not to harm them."
"Agents, your job is absurdly important. I need you to stop that report or subvert it away from the anomaly, WITHOUT killing the damn reporter. There is no telling how the public will react to it, especially if the reporter has the full scope of the op, including what this damn playground really is."
"The rest of you Grunts are assigned a mix of guard duty and maintenance."
Your minions scurry off to their various jobs.
(6) You accompany your Researcher and 10 Grunts assigned to test the children. Once you've arrived, you watch as the Researcher attempts to calm the children. Apparently he told them something about this all being some sort of big game... you nod off a moment- wait a minute what is he doing! "STOP! What have you done!" "I've just finished the tests! I've injected these children with a variety of chemical agents designed to bolster their physique! Soon we'll see if they work!" "Ow ow owwie!" The children are behaving exactly like you'd expect children to act after being injected with chemicals.
"Was that necessary to test whether the anomaly has affected them?"
"Well no, but you did say 'test'... and I've finished the other tests..."
"... just send the children back to their parents before they get messed up even worse."
One of the children hiccups. Then the child coughs out a green slime. "... exactly what did you inject them with?"
"You know what I said, chemical agents designed to bolster their physique. Agents that may have side effects."
"... treat them to minimize the side effects, then release them back to their families. And never do that again."
The next day, the children are anonymously released back to their parents. You unfortunately didn't have any amnesiacs to dose them with, but they're only children- their parents should likely ignore their stories.
While waiting for your Agents, you look around on the internet for any unusual stories. (3) You notice something on the BBC about a coming age without working antibiotics... nothing new.
(1) ((Well, that's RTD for you.)) Your Agent return to you. "Well?" "... we couldn't find the reporter." "... blast it. Please at least tell me you were able to suppress the story?" In reply, one of the Agents pulls out a smartphone from a pocket on his clothing, then turns its screen so you can see it. You read the headline it shows. "Children Abducted by Mysterious Agency? Oh no." You read the story. The reporter... he... (reporter success roll: 3) had some idea of what was going on. Thankfully he didn't actually catch anything about the playground itself, but he did manage to get some footage of your Agents and Grunts. Thankfully, again, it seemed he arrived late to the scene and only caught your agency removing the children from the scene, and putting up the fence. That could have gone much worse, however. "Sir?" "What now..." "We believe that the reporter might have detected us as we went after him. He's posted something interesting on his website to go along with the story about our abductions." You read on. "Reporter Jones now investigating mysterious agency?" It seems that although the reporter didn't detect the anomalous properties of the playground, he's still going after your agency because of the abductions. Pity.
