They would notice dust kicking up 30 yards behind them. Weighing their options, they can either run and hope it isn't following, or try to fight whatever is causing that upheaval. Winter visibly twitches.
"Raker..."
Only those that have lived in Vacuo would recognize what she was talking about. And they knew it wouldn't be pretty.
The kid nods, and cuts off a quarter of the meat, and hands it to Sienna. Oddly, it didn't burn him. He cuts off the same amount and gives it to Violet.

"What is that? That sounds bad. I don't like the sound of bad things!"

[Twinwolf]

"Thank you." Violet says, before beginning on it.

[SOLDIER First]

Ripping the Sands from it sheath, Reynard shifts it into gun form while simultaneously spinning it on his wrists. He turns to face the beast and catches his weapon, stopping it.
A mostly useless maneauver, but shut up nobody cares.
"Get ready."

Well, if that's west, and the Headmaster said to go North-East...
Having gotten his bearings, Russell now proceeds towards, well, North-East. Maybe he'd meet someone to team up with along the way, maybe he wouldn't.
Well, hopefully he would, because having somebody to watch his back was always nice.

"I don't recommend we stand and fight it, dimwit! It looks to be a big one!"
Winter starts running East.
As Russell walks, he sees two things. One, what looked like a sandstorm to the south. Two, someone... no, two people on the next dune over, trudging their way to the Northeast.

Reynard holds his position for a moment more but decides better of it. He sheathes his weapon and turns to follow Winter.

Melodia wisely follows.

Argent follows, with speed.

Sienna hungrily munches on the meat.
"Did you travel at all? You said you landed here."

That sandstorm would be a problem. Was it advancing in his, or that pair's, direction?
At any rate, he should probably get over there. Having a partner to watch his back would already be quite good. If those two would be willing to team up, they'd have a nice advantage in numbers.
If they weren't, or, God forbid, were hostile to other initiates, well, it wasn't like he couldn't proceed by himself or run away.
Therefore, after checking the direction the sandstorm is moving in, Russell proceeds towards the pair.

Winter, Argent, Reynard, and Melodia get safely away from the oncoming "Rake" in time, but are twirled around and send into the ground by the raw force of the storm bring created. Upon looking back at the storm, a colossal, void-black worm with a gaping jaw at the front of it and red lines running in various places jumps out from the sand dune. It crashes back and burrows into the sand, continuing the storm onwards. That was a Grimm... As the Rake burrows back, the earth rumbles beneath them, this is felt by everybody except Russell, who is too far away.
"I landed just... South of here. Maybe 200 yards. This is where I found some sort of wood..."
The boy is cut off by a deep rumbling.
The sandstorm is heading direct North, so it seems. It's not too wide, and should be avoidable. As he approaches the pair, however, he notes one of the two is injured badly. They're two of the Initiates from the ship.

"What was that?"

[SOLDIER First]

Reynard watches the Rake pass, expression hardening slightly.

Argent stands up, sand cascading off of him.
"Yikes.  That was close."
