Isn't that design action a blatant attempt to get 4 designs from one action?

Yup. I expect our engineers will run out of steam at some point and we won't get all fours, similar to how you can ask for 4 or 5 times of shots (of course, guns are actually much more similar to each others than shots).

Re: Arms Race: 1780 - Dunwich Meritocratic Confederacy - 1781 Revision Phase

On the topic of revising the pistol I will reiterate my ideas from earlier.
Well, It is sort of sad to waste all our revisions on newly produced items, but, well, we could, potentially, add some sort of hinged flap(with nice angled edges that fits into a matching groove in the top even if they are not perfectly aligned) into the barrel that the wheel would push down, reducing the flow between shots and preserving some of the pressure mid-salvo. We could also make the wheel's spokes shallower to increase the force at which the balls are ejected from it and reduce the number of spokes to leave more time for balls to enter and exit the wheel. although the wheel would likely then require some sort of winding mechanism and gearing to control the speed and give it the force to push the flap out of the way...

...

Or we could just move the wheel up a little bit so it ejects the ammunition more reliably and has a little less force rotating it...

Due to the expense mechanic, the cannons need to be designed separately.  Different forms of shots don't carry an expense level, so I have those able to be designed together.

No word on the flag since I submitted one too.

If we have to choose one, I think the 3 pounder is our best option, but the change in the manufacturing process is worth keeping. How's this?

Quote
Based on the highly successful système Gribeauval, the Van Karsten system is a new system of artillery, aiming to standardize the artillery pieces and increase their performance. Instead of casting them around a clay cylinder, guns are cast as one piece, and the bore is then drilled into it.

The smoother bore allow tighter-fitting projectile, increasing range and precision, while decreasing the overall weigh of the cannon. The first gun fielded using this new system was a relatively small 3 pound field gun capable of firing either ordinary round shot or Dunwich canister shot.

I think we should go for a real gun rather than a battalion gun. The multi-musket thing we stole from Combe already give us some nice infatry support weapon. We will also be getting more Ore next turn, which in turn means that a larger gun would be merely expensive (the Atterton 12-pdr is howitzer as expensive as our 6-pdr.

Also, remember the lesson of Arstotzka: try to fit as much as possible in your designs. I kept my Von Karsten system rather bare to try to milk more than one design, but if we ask for a single gun, we might get something else in there too (the Monarchist got case shot that way).

Spoiler: Von Karsten 8-pounder (click to show/hide)

I still support the dart rifle. If we were going for a three pounder, then I would try for a rifled revolver.
