flazeo I think you need to tame your steam fetish. We already have steam engines so can apply them to stuff we design.

And my preferred design is still on the cable carts, or else something to improve resources.

I asked Zan and that steam only works for our shitty boat.

Well it depends on if we have to specify in a phase what the engine will be used for, or if it'll automatically be put to use in places like factories, mines etc.

Invoke GM clarification.

Suppose we wanted to build steam-powered cable railways now.
1. Is it a Design or a Revise action?
2. Do our steamboat expertise actually provide enough, ahem, steam power for our project (so we enjoy a bonus from rolls or effectiveness)?
3. Do we need to explicitly develop steam-powered industrial machinery?

The best way to make friends here is to drop the soap during shower time. Try it, I'm sure you'll love making friends like that!

Design.  What's been described is way too much for a revision.
There would be a minor bonus from general knowledge.
In order to power factories, yes.

Pardon me if I sound a bit dense, but what advantage would a breech loading cannon have over muzzle loaders? It seems like it would be pretty slow to place and remove the rear plate.

Even if loading is only marginally faster, we still gain because it will require a smaller crew and be easier to maintain/clean, and therefore it will be more reliable. Also, loading a muzzleloader is an involved business, so I think our gain in speed will be more than marginal. Finally, we could use a 3-pounder for expense reasons, so why not have it be breech loading?

And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction: 'I served in the Assaulted Lanterns Magma Artillery' - King Id I of the Assaulted Lanterns

Well in light of what we know about how technology is applied, I think that we should go for developing steam powered industrial machinery. I'm not convinced on the idea of a V twin steam engine, but inline would be fine.

I wonder would we be able to use revise things like Grand Engineering Halls or The Hall of Production if we got steam.

Please also note that "Common Sense" was a Pamphlet in this era. English was a very long-winded business indeed.

Breech loading isn't currently possible, and even if it is, it would be very innifficient without shells, do to the fact you can't really put a cannonball inside a tube without it falling out one side.
