I'll say Yes, but it is complex, due to the processes involved.

Well you guys are complaining about steam designs when evil ones is steam engine cable car, also do we even have access to steel yet because Bessemer process didnt become avialable till 1850s?

Yes. The Bessemer just made it easier to make steel.

Speaking of lowest intelligence, that reminds me of the fact that it's probably your first time in prison. Don't worry, I can give you some tips, having spent some time in a few myself. The best way to make friends here is to drop the soap during shower time. Try it, I'm sure you'll love making friends like that!

We can also use natural materials like Hemp. Really given the low speeds involved the stresses aren't that high.

Also friction railways aren't the best way to deal with slopes. Cable railways are designed with slopes in mind.

Quote
Semi-Powered Funiculars
Designing tracks and cart wheels that fit together was simple enough, however refining the steam engines to be able to haul those loads was another challenge completely. If the engine was to be of any sensible size, it can only haul one loaded cart, or a small train of unloaded ones. Thus powered sections are limited to short lengths, leaving the majority of the system unpowered. This system will allow you to access one additional resource.

Tech Gained:
Low Pressure Steam Engine

Your experience with steam power saved you there, however you ended up with an equivalent to the Loyalist wagonways. You will be able to pick an additional resource in the production phase of the next turn.

No, we gut the Mulard and have it be sail powered and more gunned.

I think we should focus on what we just designed since jumping to new thing will not fix it.

The wagonway will do its job for the time being. We will be fielding more guns in no time.
But since this is a revision action... can we do this?

Fix the howitzers. We are tired of fielding two sets of guns to do two functions. We need a universal gun system that can fire low explosive shells, round shot, canister shot and whatsoever. Our newly found steam prowess will help!

Well the funiculars have done what we want them to though. We have access to additional resources, which was our goal. At least we won't be behind if the confederates develop some transport now.

And getting a ship that's competitive is actually very important. Our navy got absolutely crushed last year, if you remember.

Even if we strip the mulard it still be destoryed by loyalists, it's better off letting them have the sea till we can start making iron or steel ships later, since they don't have any good tech to do a land invasion yet.

Territory control can affect resources, and we have no reason to believe that doesn't include the sea.
And are you joking about iron and steel ships? We're talking >50 years away there.

I think the best way to come back navally is to revise the Mulard to be sail-powered and have a more conventional gun layout, at which point we have just about the same thing as the Confederate brig-sloop.

I'm thinking the exact same thing as Graknorke, and have been for a while. I kind of want to suggest my cannon design as a revision of the six-pounders this year, but I would support either proposal. Incidentally, regarding resources, I believe there was some kind of rule about the Loyalists being able to get resources via sea trade from Great Britain. So control of the sea will probably affect resources.

The thing that worries me about revising the Mulard is that there are problems with its shape and hull strength that are independent of the steam engine, but hopefully we can revise those out. Because it may still be light and weak, I think we should focus on making it very fast, able to hunt down Loyalist Dover-class transports while running away from London-classes.

In terms of planning for espionage, maybe we can try to steal the improved casting methods of the Loyalists to make our artillery cheaper, so we'll be able to put out so many that the two sets problem won't matter. Otherwise we could either steal the pistols the Altonites are using or the carbines of the Combists.

And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction: 'I served in the Assaulted Lanterns Magma Artillery' - King Id I of the Assaulted Lanterns

Dont the Combe have a pickle gun? which is early verison of machine guns, carbines from the Alton arn;t as as good as confederates weapons. we could try steal their the loyalist trade ship they seemed to built but not sure if possible since they control the sea.
