For a ship that big you'd be looking at tens or even over a hundred guns. So if we only want a couple cannons it's going to have to be scaled down. A lot. Otherwise it's just wasted space.

And actually thinking of scaling issues, maybe we could skip straight past paddle wheels and go to propellers? Being that we know how great they are and also are in the position of engineers for the Glorious Atterton Monarchy.
The propeller has the benefit of keeping all the propulsion systems under the waterline and therefore less likely to be damaged, and also they work better.

If we're having 2 cannons each side then my maybe wrong estimates about the relationship between width and number of guns suggests that we want the Mulard to be about 10 feet across then.

Am-MulardA is steam boat composed mainly of wooden frame with thin layer of metal plating covering the outer layer. It is 115 feet in length and 23 feet wide powered by twin screw propeller steam engines and one boiler. It has four cannons, two on each side fixed to boat.

Length in meters would be about 35m and in width 7m

Ok edited it to 115 feet which is 35 meters so makes 5:1 now. which makes it about yacht size or bit smaller than yacht.

Is the design ok now.

Yeah. This turn, should we try and improve our muskets so they reload faster?
