Well more cannons = a more likely chance of survivibility

The best way to make friends here is to drop the soap during shower time. Try it, I'm sure you'll love making friends like that!

For a ship that big you'd be looking at tens or even over a hundred guns. So if we only want a couple cannons it's going to have to be scaled down. A lot. Otherwise it's just wasted space.

And actually thinking of scaling issues, maybe we could skip straight past paddle wheels and go to propellers? Being that we know how great they are and also are in the position of engineers for the Glorious Atterton Monarchy.
The propeller has the benefit of keeping all the propulsion systems under the waterline and therefore less likely to be damaged, and also they work better.

So screw-propeller steam ship then? since it not to far off and for cannon 2 on each side and mini cannon one front?

If we're having 2 cannons each side then my maybe wrong estimates about the relationship between width and number of guns suggests that we want the Mulard to be about 10 feet across then.

Ok then here's a second one:

Spoiler: AM-MulardA (click to show/hide)

Length in meters would be about 35m and in width 7m

I'd still trim down the length a bit, go for a length:beam ratio of 5:1 or so? That seems to be pretty standard for wooden ships.

Ok edited it to 115 feet which is 35 meters so makes 5:1 now. which makes it about yacht size or bit smaller than yacht.

Is the design ok now.

I think it's looking good. Although if it was my design I'd slap 2-4 more cannons on it.

Looks pretty good. Next turn should we create some kind of boarding weapon?

I'd rather improve our ground forces.

Okay. I would like to create faster loading muskets soon.

Yeah. This turn, should we try and improve our muskets so they reload faster?
