Sure, that'll work, why aren't we designing a better pistol again?  We could use our revision on the rifle and our sailors would be better armed.
I'd rather not, mostly because a pistol will represent only a small increase in effectiveness both our soldiers and our sailors. A rifle, on the other hand, will be a bigger increase in effectiveness for (probably) both of them. Even if it doesn't increase the effectiveness of our sailors by that much - we currently have unchallenged naval supremacy. I don't think it'll be needed soon.

It would probably be safer doing it the other way around. Swapping something from flintlock to percussion cap is a rather simple process compared to large-scale reworks of the ass-end of it.

I'll agree with you Aseaheru, if you admit that revolvers > pepperboxes.
If not, I'll go with the rifle.

Generally, Aseaheru, I agree with you that we should rather build a breechloader than a muzzleloader. I'm just not sure whether the time is right for it. On the other hand, if we're going to use a revision action anyways, why not just go with the most ambitious design first? Let's combine them...

Depending on what works and what doesn't, we can replace the percussion caps or the breach in a revision.

AAAND we've come full circle on the proposals :p

Edit:To simplify things I'm not changing my vote unless this new compromise proposal gets some support-just so we're not here a week debating this :P

No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.

Revolvers eventually trump pepperboxes. Starting with round-about the US civil war.

Anyways, doing everything at once is fine with me. +1

Though, I dont really like the name...

Exactly.
For me, it's very simple: I believe the Imperial Take 2 the best approach if we're only going to spend a single action on rifles. If we spend two anyways, I'll go with the most optimistic proposal first (on the chance of it turning out good) and rather simplify later.

Though, I dont really like the name...
'Compromise' is only to distinguish it from the rest. Unless you don't like Imperial, in which case - what do you propose instead?

Our current royal monarch is George III, so why not call it the King George Rifle?

I originally wanted to call it something like the Worchester-Pattern Rifle (after one of our cities), but I can get behind the King George Rifle.

We are going to fail so hard at this. Percussion caps, paper cartridges, breech loading (get us metal cartridges and it's a bloody bolt action, we just need an magazine for it).
I am all for it tho. We're pretty safe right now so we can risk wasting an design or even revision phase on it. Or even multiple revisions.

Already existed.

It opens up the other way.

Besides, whats a weapon design game without doing crazy shit like designing steam-powered tanks, assault rifles in the 1930s, or percussion caps?
