I installed and played around with it. I had some trouble getting it to work initially, but after making sure the folder wasn't read-only, running it as an administrator, and making sure the path has \Phoenix at the end after setting the file path it worked.

Well you should not have to do this. Giving admin rights to random programs is always bad, even if it is Phoenix made by joulupunikki. I think this has to do with programs installed in official Windows folders being admin only access, and runtime files being stored in c:\Users\user\AppData Temp or other user writable directories (I have no official Windows schooling, and I have never before developed Windows installable software.) A workaround is to copy the EFS folder somewhere where users can write (well, I suppose anywhere outside the official windows admin only folders in C:) and then install Phoenix there. Currently you have to install in EFS\Phoenix, I failed to mention that explicitly (it is implied in the install video.)

I really, really like it so far. This has the potential to be a HUGE improvement over vanilla EFS. The opportunity to have player League and Church (maybe even Symbiots if there are masochists who like playing this game) is really exciting.

It's good to have test reports from players, so far I have been mostly doing what I think is good, but ultimately players decide if it's worth playing.

There were some issues I saw, if you'd like I can PM you a list of stuff I found that wasn't working so well.

PM list of stuff yes please. And also, did you succeed with the Windows installer ? Which OS are you using ?

Well, my Avast liked the installer seemingly less than every other file I install, but once it scanned it multiple times, it installed to my EFS folder fine and I was able to launch it no problem. I'm using Windows 10 64-bit.

100MB of (possibly compressed in jars) bytecode in the embedded java for the scanner to be suspicious of ... good that it works on Win X, I was a bit worried about that ... and now that you mention it, I have not tried it with a 32-bit OS.

Here's another question - what about the Vau? What kind of AI does a semi-neutral, isolationist faction need? I've always found the Vau a very interesting presence in EFS and the setting as a whole. But even as Decados, right next to them, I hardly see any reason to go to war with them, and they certainly won't go to war with me or do anything of their own. Perhaps more of a trade element would be interesting.

Stuff like that might be best left for modders, some settings in ini-files to determine Vau activity, like do they only defend their protectorates or do they also launch punitive raids against hostiles elsewhere in the galaxy, and how much colonization they permit on their protectorates. Having to buy rights to build cities might be doable also.

I'm using Windows 7, I'll send the list tomorrow.
Mostly it had to do with the speed of the program, multiple clicking of units to get them to respond to orders and the NPC factions can't move when I try to play them. But I'll do a more in depth test later.
Also, is there a file I can edit to make the screen larger?

House Hawkwood has established one electronics factory on the central continent of Tethys. 20 Gems to pay for the new construction are enroute and will be delivered to just outside the Imperial Guard controlled Palace.

My virtual windows is exactly 32 bit. Also, the installer didn't proposed me to choose the installation dir manually.

Also, phoenix crashed when tried to open the save file of this game.

About Phoenix:

I have tried to fix most of the reported issues and I'll try to prepare a new version before the weekend.

Also, is there a file I can edit to make the screen larger?

There is a 1280 x 960 mode, but I had not tested it for a while and it won't start so I'll have to fix it first.

So, Hazat, now I am curious to hear the reason why you moved that transport to Criticorum. I searched the whole planet! There are no spies, no hided ships, nothing at all! Nothing at all that doesn't bear the banner of Al Malik or belong to local Agora.

Ha! Dear Invader, it's just a part of general defensive operations. Only partially successful, this one.

BTW, I should get the turn in by Sunday, providing I don't get stuck in another bout of diplomatic quagmire.

Has anyone had luck getting the EFS map editor to work on Windows 10? I was wanting to mess around with it but I receive that annoying Wing32.dll error, which doesn't go away even if I place it in System32 and/or System folders.

Faced with outright capture of Sutek palace by Decados' troops, we are forced to defend ourselves to the best of our abilities. This shall include offensive actions on Byzantium.

-L.

ooc: hey, if any of you spots anything re. the balancing of unit stats (i.e. unit.dat file) during the game, make a note. I already have a short list I'd like to change for the future, but I'm sure I haven't noticed every problem there is. Bad cost vs effectiveness or tech balance, anything that may be worth of notice.

League unit stumbles upon random, unspotted infantry, declares war of annihilation. Doesn't the Leaguemeister know I'm fighting for his dignity?!

Duke Vladimir, Prince Anatol, Baroness Olgana, Duke Horace, Count Jorgan, Baron Erakhan and Grand Prince Nikolai II, my oldest son and heir. These are the names of our Decados nobility slain in cold blood upon the throne world by swarms of Hazat assassins. Noble houses across the known worlds can now see our fear was real - the treacherous Lazarus all this time had swarms upon swarms of assassins, ready to jump at any given notice and break through defenses all to slaughter our electors. Is this the way of decent, honorable war? Of course not, it is the behavior of a ravenous beast with no respect for the time honored institutions. Even amidst war, we left their noble on Severus unharmed, but he has now been dismembered by the enraged populace of Severus. I promise you, my loyal and faithful servants, we will repay their blood in full, until Lazarus begs for a swift death.

20 gems have been delivered for the Imperial Fleet near the Palace of Tethys as payment for the previous years electronics factory.

===========================================================
((Alright this got wordy real fast))

A storm raged across tar soaked skies, the tall maxicrete towers of the Second Republic groaned under punishing lightning and their faces wept with torrential rain. A tempest such as this had not been felt in over a decade, and not a single star was able to piece the shroud which covered Byzantium Secundus this night.

It was not this violence which troubled the brow of Faustus Hawkwood as he gazed out upon Embassy Row from his richly furnished office. Nature would vent her anger, but it was the crimes of men that filled the Elector with despair. What felt like an entire generation of Nobility from several Royal Houses had been struck down within a few short years, what terrible revenge would be perpetuated now?

The future was the will of the Pancreator, but even the dullest serf could see that only more blood would flow. Was his life next for the assassin's knife? Would it be a snipers bullet as he spoke in the Senate? Or perhaps a jala viper slithering underneath his bed sheets?

He grimaced and once more scratched the surgical scars on his chest, under which the cybernetic sensor measured his heart beat. If he should die here, then by the Duke's Command so will the murderer who takes it.

With an angry crash the Elector hurled his crystal chalice against the wall. And now a lunatics scheme was to be his last protection? Nothing could save his life against the Slayer's Guild. It was no comfort that his life was now worth equal to billions more lives in the Capitol.

He watched as the ancient cold orb painted Hawkwood blue was unloaded from the waiting lander and remembered the old family adage:

"Even in death a Hawkwood repays his debts."
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
===========================================================

House Hawkwood will not tolerate the terror that grips the Throneworld. Our House decrees that the life of one of our family is easily worth the entire planet of Byzantium Secundus. Should any Great Noble House, Church or League assassin think to harm him then they will unleash a holocaust which will forever haunt their name.

This horrific weapon will remain inert as long as the life of our Elector is left unharmed. Attempt to kill him and it will be you and you alone that shall be remembered as the destroyer of the Empire.

Plague bombs on Byzantium, oh the intrigue. Here's hoping we can reduce that world to rubble by the time it's all said and done, and the Leaguemeister is crowned emperor.
