Darkest Town (a Darkest Dungeon Game)
« on: November 05, 2015, 04:32:40 pm »

You still remember the chaos of your arrival, the screams in the forest, the bandits on the road. Whatever gold-fever possessed you is long gone, this was a truly terrible idea, following that inbred mad nobleman into this god forsaken ruin. But here you are, Darkest Town, with a scenic view on a ruined castle filled with gods know what abominations, surrounded by blighted, mad bandit infested forests and an ocean which is teeming with fish...that are larger than you and have a tendency to eat people...not to mention those other things.

Well, no helping that, business is business and this town is promising to boom. After all Darkest Manor is known to contain horse carts full of extremely rare and profitable artifacts, books, heirlooms and who knows what else.

But who are you?
And What business do you bring to town?

Hello, this is basically Darkest Dungeon concentrated more on the Economic Side of things. You will have nothing to do with venturing into the darkness of those Ruins, Crypts and worse. Instead you will profiteer off of the Nobleman and the boatload of adventurers coming to town.
Your business can include a lot of things. Maybe you have a Hostel, providing a place to stay for the Mercs or maybe you are a Stagecoach Driver, bringing supplies past bandits and wildlife to the town. Maybe you are a blacksmith, a doctor, the new owner of the Asylum or a priest?
Or maybe you are simply an investor providing the adventurer groups with extra funds to outfit themselves and profit directly off of them.
Maybe you are the head of the Crusaders Order or the Vestals or some other group who has completely different goals in town not directly interested in making cash?

The Game will be parted up into weeks. Each week one adventurer group will march into the various locations and maybe or maybe not reemerge laden with wealth. All the locations from the game can and will have effects if they are cleansed and freed.
For example the Weald constricts the delivery of supplies and the trade. The more of it is cleansed the safer the road becomes.
Cleansing the Cove will for example allow you to conduct trade via ship with distant lands, bringing in more adventurers and extra wealth.

As a player you are usually not constricted to a single business. In time you might branch out to be a money lender, an owner of property, mayor and so on and so forth.

Name: Leoncio Crassus
Business: Courier Service
Backstory: Leoncio is a twenty-one year old man who comes from a long line of farmers who farmed modest plots of land. Being the youngest of five sons on a modest plot of land meant Leoncio was nowhere near the farm inheritance and needed to find eventually find a differing vocation. At the young age of sixteen, he attempted to join his nation’s cavalry. Although a fairly skilled horse rider, Leoncio was rejected from cavalry duty as his commander claimed he was too short and thin. Instead he was transferred over to the military’s courier service and spent his days relaying messages from post to post. After a quiet five years of mostly never fighting bandits, vile monsters, or other baddies Leoncio left the military. With his new strong knowledge and interest in logistics, the ex-military man decided to head Darkest Town and start a courier business there.
Goal: Leoncio wants to run financially secure and profitable business. He also hopes to one day settle down and raise a family.

Name: Pharris Lockheart

Backstory: Pharris actually used to be a adventurer, but one day he and his crew bought some gear from the new blacksmith in town. Turns out the gear was faulty and got his crew and almost him dead, when he got back to town that blacksmith took a walk and never came back. He could no longer adventure safely though, his leg had been mangled and half his face. So he used what was left of his teams funds and bought the smithy and supplies, when he had been younger his father who was a blacksmith taught him the trade. Now he supplies adventures with the best gear he can possibly make, constantly innovating to make better weapons and armor. He even has a couple assistants now to help him.

Goal: He wants to help the adventures do what he had always wanted to do. Clean out this place and figure out its secrets, also he has caught the blacksmithing bug and want to create better and better equipment. A hundred people. That's your rough estimate at least. Fourty-One people would make bad business for a blacksmith...but this is no normal town.

A Future "permanent" population of 3 Whores, 1 Bartender, The Caretaker, The Nobleman, twenty people staff for the nobleman, a single mad coachman who lived alone in this town with the caretaker for gods knows how long, a "hostel" (the ramshackle barrack is disgusting) owner, ten guards who look more like bandits and you: A Blacksmith, his apprentice and a Courier Rider.

Pharris Lockheart

Well, the old forge is still workable. Whoever used to work here was able to do some impressive work. Sadly enough looters have destroyed or taken away most useful stuff. This is gonna take quite a while to bring it back to full standards.

Spoiler:  Property (click to show/hide)

Leoncio Crassus

Welp, not exactly what you expected...a bloody old mare, but at least you have a horse. This is not going to be fun, at least you still have Old Mary with ye, the army was kind enough to "lend" her to you.

Spoiler:  Property (click to show/hide)

This Weeks Target: Ruins (50%), Weald (50%)
This Weeks Mission: Explore (100%), Clear (0%)
This Weeks Group: Dismas (Highwayman), Priest (Crusader), Jekyll (Plague Doctor), Sister Dora (Vestal)

Ruins: 0% Cleared, 0% Explored
Weald: 0% Cleared, 0% Explored

The Roster:
Dismas (Highwayman) Lvl 1
Priest (Crusader) Lvl 1
Jekyll (Plague Doctor) lvl 1
Sister Dora (Vestal) lvl 1

________________

OOC: Very well, the Coach and the Courier Service will both leave once a week. You can place orders for them right at the beginning. Towards the midst of the week the Explorers return (or not) and will take services within the city and spread the wealth. At the end of the week you will pay rent, taxes and your ordered supplies and new personnel arrive (or not).

The Courier Service can carry as many messages and as much money as you want, he however can not bring back large amounts of goods (at least not with a single horse).

The mad Coachman can transport 4 people and up to 200 kg in goods. The Nobleman has priority though and might fill out that quota every now and then.

As for your services. Each time your Services are done successfully you gain Reputation which will make your job easier and will make choose people you over potential rivals.

The Blacksmith can do two jobs per week with each apprentice doing one extra at a malus (obviously the apprentice isn't as skilled as the master). More Apprentices, advanced equipment and similiar things will allow you to do more and better jobs.

Both of you don't have a house and have to either decide to stay at the Inn or at the Hostel. The Hostel is cheaper but you might fall ill, the Inn is more expensive but at least its warm and somewhat not flea-ridden.

Name: Dustan Hache
Profession: Modern Knight
Backstory: An outcast historian who is half crazy, half cunning, Dustan Hache devoted himself to study of the knights of old, their codes of piety and chivalry and their armaments. Deciding that the best course of action upon being kicked out of his town would be to find more sources of knowledge, he set out to the town with his modest armor and blade, in hopes of bringing back the ideals of old and becoming a hero of modern times as well.
Goals: Establish a solid foundation for the town, and eventually become the lord of it.

After taking stock of himself, Leoncio makes his way towards the hostel. There he asks the owner how much it would cost to stay and if they need anything to be delivered. Then he checks the inn to inquire the cost of room and offers his services there as well.

OOC: Is this how I should be posting?

Name: Honey
Business: "Companionship"
Backstory: The favored daughter of a flesh peddler and one of his possessions, Honey's father taught her from a young age that the way to prove you were better than someone was to own them like an animal. She learned this lesson well, lording herself over siblings, staff, and strangers alike, which may be one reason she was so consistently one of her father's favorites. She was already an experienced manager by the time she hit "working age," and her father was only too happy to loan her the money to get started on her own when an irresistible opportunity opened up a few years later...
Goals: Honey has two goals here: To own this town and everyone in it, and to conquer the evils lurking in the dark. The things she saw and heard on the trip here terrified her in ways that the most dangerous of her father's thugs and contacts never could, and she's managed to mostly convince herself that the cure is to learn more about them and see them in chains. She knows on some level that this isn't likely to go as smoothly as her father punishing some petty thief or cheap whore, but neither can she stand the thought of being inferior to whatever's out there.

Inquire around town especially towards the adventure's if there be anything they like made from me, or if there's any other smithy jobs around town that can be done. Also inform my apprentice he will be assisting me in my jobs for the time being until he gets better and can do his own jobs. Also what exactly is missing from the smithy, what is needed to complete it?

Name: Lou the Lewd

Business: Tavern

Backstory: Lou lived in a big city once and held a position similar to the one he had here. While he wasn't paricularly successful, a move by a bigger organisation saw him running to some godforsaken place and do what he does best, which was gathering whores and selling alcohol.

Goals: Found the grandest tavern in the lands, filled to the brim with fast women, strong horses and beautiful alcohol, or something like that.

Name: Father Din

Business: why, nothing less than the Apostolic Vicariate of Darkest Town (that is, the smelly, half-collapsed wooden church at the end of town)

Backstory: Father Din's always had a bit of an adventurous streak to him, which is what led him to Darkest Town in the first place. Seems like it'd be a fine place to do some right and proper Christian business, maybe impress the idea of the Lord on the land as well as the filthy louts currently inhabiting it. And there's bound to be a lot of traffic here at some point, and since this is one of the few places in the world where demons are proven to walk the earth, why, what better place for a priest with a good deal of ambition to be, eh?

Goals: become the Darkest Bishop! Get a right spiffy cathedral at that, too.

For the most part, mine will be acting as a mixture of guard and librarian. he's going to try to protect the town, and act as a source of knowledge as a hobby.

Mid-Week 1

[26] Screams in the Night, terrors in the dark. The Weald holds far more sinister things than rabid dogs and bandits. With fear you close the shutters and hide in the inn or your home, waiting for the screams to stop...finally as day breaks...

a half mad, panicked Dismas stumbles bleeding from the forest. He is immediately brought to the asylum were the mute sisters take him in to care for him.

Looks like bad business this week...

Hostel Price: 1 Sterling
Inn Price: 5 Sterling

Pharris Lockheart

Lucky for you the Nobleman wants you immediately to take on a lot of jobs he wants 10 New Steel Armours Forged. Highest Quality. And while you are at it 10 Rifles with according bullets. He offers a thousand sterling for the lot or 50 a piece...

You do a quick calculation in your head...you need at least between 10 and 30 kg per armour...plus whatever you want to use for the rifles...hmm...your current forge won't be able to handle the rifling, at best you can serve with smoothbores. Will take some extra equipment...thats gonna be expensive...

Leoncio Crassus

You don't get a job at the Hostel or the Inn but the Nobleman wants you to visit a bunch of Coachmen, the Order of the Teutons, the Vestal Sisterhood and some private gentlemen. All in all he offers you 50 Sterling for the Job.

a panicked Nobleman has ordered extra Coaches to bring in a good amount of extra warm bodies. At the end of the week four Coaches will come, loaded to bear with personnel and new businessmen. This also leave the Coachman open for potential extra orders.

For when I arrive:  I invite the whores in to my establishement so that the men can get some company after they get a drink. I shall also hire some musicians to perform. Additionaly, I shall designate one of my best rooms to be the Noble Suite, which will cost 10 pounds but will have the best service and accesories possible, as well as complete discretion.
