(SG) You are an Orc Clanfather
« on: November 04, 2015, 10:25:19 pm »

For more than two and a half decades, Poor-Guruk ruled over the Three Valleys as Orcish Clanfather. He was considered to be a wise, strong, and just ruler. His reign was notable for ending the raids of the Deepland Bandits and for the construction of a port for trade and piracy on the Saltless Sea. Poor-Guruk was loved greatly by his subjects, even his non Orcish subjects, and respected by the human and elven kingdoms who controlled the neighboring lands. Other Orcish clans, however, held Poor-Guruk in low reguard, as his personal vices were common knowledge among the Orcish elite of the world, and they saw his great love of gambling in particular as an unforgiveable weakness.

Poor-Guruk eventually grew tired of this disrespect, and eventually decided to prove the other Orcish Clans wrong by proving his love of card and dice to be a strength. He challenged his brother Arrugup, who had recently inherited his father-in-law's profitable caravan business, to a public game of dice with the highest of stakes: To the winner would go all the loser's worldly possessions save for his weapon, armor, and personal band of warriors. The game was played as planned. Poor-Guruk lost.

And so control of the Three Valleys passed to Arrugup, who quickly proved himself to be an inept and weak leader. The animal men bandits began to raid again. He failed to quash a movement for Goblin and Snaga autonomy in Sea Valley before it became a full on revolt. He allowed two of his three vassal eleven tribes to switch their loyalties to an elf Queen based out of the northern plains without fight or complaint. In recent months he has even allowed the forces of the human and elf kingdoms, who are presently at each other's throats and likely headed for all out war, to move troops through his lands unhindered.

The death of Arrugup came suddenly. Some reports out of the Three Valleys say he was assassinated. Because Poor-Guruk's linage was disinherited as terms of the dice game, and Arrugup produced no heirs, rule of the Three Valleys passed to their sister Chlemora. Chlemora, an elderly woman satisfied with her current post as Chief Alchemist to another high clan, deferred the post to her eldest daughter Wrakemor. Wrakemor, a hardened and storied soldier in her own right, had just accepted the post of Commander-in-Chief of Hallowedgold, a dwarf fortress, and had no intent on forsaking her oath of service so soon, so she in turn passed rule of the Three Valleys to her eldest heir - you.

Name: Kasha Darkscar
Gender: Female
Age: 15

How you Spent Your Childhood:
-Your mother knew her lifestyle as a wandering mercenary meant that she was ill suited to raise an highborn child on her own. As soon as you were weaned, you were sent to live at the court of your Great Uncle, who ruled over the Three Valleys. You start play already having established relationships with many of your prominent underlings, and with a very solid grasp of Orcish High Culture.

For your 12th Birthday, your mother gave you your own band of warriors to lead. What did you name them?:
-The Gilded Snaurs. Gold has connotations of conquest in Orcish culture, being a somewhat more common spoil among other races, while the personality-laden war boars are a favored mount and battle companion of those that can appreciate and tolerate animals with a rather distinct mind of their own. You liked the symbolism of refining your peoples' wealth and power into something to use, and had long been in awe of the Snaurs as a mark of heroism and valor.

What you have done with those warriors since:
-You and your warriors wandered the world, hunting the lairs and dens of those who would harm the innocent. Many of your warriors are clad in gear made from megabeast parts, and many possess some magical knowledge. You enter play with a solid understand of the ways of night trolls and megabeasts, as well as a heroic reputation earned by fighting such creatures. It also earned you a distinctive, but fortunately not disfiguring, blackened scar and matching title when one such entity narrowly avoided taking your head with its foul blade. That creature serves you in chains now, a symbol of your inevitable triumph over the dark, though some of your more cautious warriors worry about its impotence and intentions.

Name: Guknar Terrorgems
Gender: Female
Age: 17

How you Spent Your Childhood:
Shortly after your second birthday, you were possessed by the spirit of a Dwarven Child who died while consumed with the idea for an artifact weapon. You don't remember anything until shortly after you turned nine and you completed Terrorgems, a legendary maul comprised of gold, lead, and steel bands. You enter play with this artifact, as well as the near-mythical reputation you have earned for both its creation and use.

For your 12th Birthday, your mother gave you your own band of warriors to lead. What did you name them? :
You named them Terrormauls, a play of words on your possession. You also have seen to it, that the champions of your band are armed with a maul that could be mistaken for Terrorgems at first glance, or by the uninformed; The meek fools fear the likened mauls from your champions, the bold fools don't fear the true terrorgems in your hands, both easily falling prey to them.

What you have done with those warriors since:
You and your warriors mainly fought to serve the interests of the various independent Orcish Kingdoms scattered across the land. Even though you have not spent enough time at court to know much about their manners and customs, you have earned the respect, gratitude, and gold of many an Orcish Clanfather. Your war band is equipped with the finest heavy melee weapons and armor. You enter play with the respect of your fellow Orcish Leaders, and a good sum of gold.

I would ask why fire can burn two men to death without getting hot enough to burn a book, but then I read "INEXTINGUISHABLE RUNNING KAMIKAZE RADIOACTIVE FLAMING ZOMBIE" and realized that logic, reason, and physics are all occupied with crying in the corner right now.

Dammit. You just had to go and tie up the vote right minutes before I sit down to write. If nobody breaks it in the next 30 minutes, I'm flipping a coin.

I'll go ahead and switch my vote to Harry's Udu-Kai. If we can't have a paladin we'll have a deep alchemist!

Clanfather Udu-Kai:

Clan of the Three Valleys:

Politics and Relationships:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Year 456. Middle of the Fourth Month:

After six days navigating the somewhat trecherous Titan Pass, you at last make it to Fort Canyon-Walls which marks the northern border of your new holdings. As the name suggests, the fort mainly consists of two walls spanning a narrow canyon, with a tower and living hall situated in the semi-natural courtyard they create. Although three days away from the closest civilization, you have been lead to understand that this fort is one of your key strategic holdings - should the humans and elves go to war, either side could use Titan Pass, which crosses through your lands, to bypass the front and strike at the heartland of the other. Should the elves choose to invade you in hopes of claiming the pass for themselves, Fort Canyon-Walls would be your first and greatest line of defense. You are shocked then to find it so undermanned.

It takes the three guards present outside 45 minutes to let the drawbridge down for you, and as you are lead inside to meet with the commander you only count another two soldiers. Your band is brought into the hall and seated at the benches, and a woman pushing middle age is brought in to play harp for you while you wait for the food to be presented and the commander to make himself presentable to meet his new lord.

After 30 minutes, an older Orc pushing a cart of food enters. You recognize him at once as Tormonulorg, the strong and respected commander who has held Fort Canyon-Walls for nearly a century. The officer humbles himself by wordlessly serving you and your band personally before taking a seat, at which point the orcess playing harp speaks up.

"My lord extends his apology for the delay. Your predecessor withdrew support for this installation, so Tormonulorg has been running the fort with nothing more than his personal War Band. I am Malifom, Fate Sister to the Mighty and Just Tormonulorg, who as you must have heard by now is mute, so I speak for him. Most of us are out hunting now, so it is just myself, my master, and six of our men."

"Only six?" Your own Fate Sister Burn-Char pipes in, "It must truly speak to Arrugup's weakness that a commander as strong as Tormonulorg is in such dire straits."

"I will not argue against that claim," Maliform agrees before continuing with what she had been planning to say, "Anyway, my lord would like to recommend that you wait for his hunters to return before you continue on to your seat of power at Castle Powderforged. It is only three and a half days march from here, but no fewer than three individuals from the castle and the neighboring village of Twin-Smithy have requested that my lord pledge them an oath of fealty since Arrugup died, so you might want some more Orcs at your back in case you have to prove your strength to claim what you have rightfully inherited."

You glance at the commander as his Fate Sister speaks. You are fairly sure you can trust Tormonulorg. It is far from common knowledge, but the respected officer is actually a vampire of the Greyjuiced Bloodline, a breed known more for intelligence and willpower than any physical attribute. When you were but a lad, Maliform would sometimes visit your grandmother to buy Synthetic Dragon's Blood, a potent and addictive drug for vampires, on her master's behalf. Several of your vampire contacts back home have suggested that he could be trusted to serve you loyally, and you have brought along several bottles of the potion he craves as a gift to ensure this.

Once you finish your food, a comfortingly familiar slab of Elk Bird steak roasted in Sweet Pod sauce, Maliform invites you and your officers to her chambers so that you may grill her in private on the state of the Three Valleys. What do you ask? And what other actions might you take?
