Politics and Relationships:NPCs in Party/Court:
Plunt - A lowborn male orc of 33 years who serves as the Band Chief of the Wurms. The traditional duties of his post include the day to day management of the band, leading the band in battle when you choose not to do so yourself, and seeing that the band is inherited by another worthy Orc highborn in case of your death. Plunt hails from a simple tribe of Yak herding nomads. He is loyal to a fault and has courage in excess, and these traits led you to pick him out of all the Orcs in your band to serve as chief. Through your potions and exposure to the caverns, Plunt has mutated into a monstrous physical specimen; He can dead-lift his mount over his head, and outrun it over short distances.
Cornius - A highborn male orc of 20 years who holds the distinction of being your Fate Brother. As your fate brother, Cornius is legally an extension of yourself. He can fight your duels, be punished in your place, father your legitimate children should you prove infertile, and in your absence wield the authority of any post you have obtain. He is expected to end his own life in the event of your death. Cornius was caught red-handed trying to assassinate a political rival of his father's, disgracing him to the point where the only post suitable for his birth was that of your fate brother. Cornius views morality as a weakness, and will advise you to commit grave sins if he thinks it will bring you material or political gain. Cornius has mutated to become more spider-like; His skin is dark and chitin-like, he can move silently and climb well, and he possesses an extra pair of arms.
Burn-Char - A highborn female orc of 19 years who holds the distinction of being your Fate Sister. As your fate sister, Burn-Char is legally an extension of yourself. She can fight your duels, be punished in your place, bare your legitimate children should your eventual spouse prove infertile, and in your absence wield the authority of any post you have obtain. She is expected to end his own life in the event of your death. Burn-Char was raised underground and exposed to heavy mutagens growing up, and as a result she catches fire and her bodily fluids turn to magma when she is hurt or angry. Unable to lead a normal life or wear proper armor because of this, Burn-Char has praticed the art of hex-weaving so that she may still fight, and signed up to be your Fate Sister in hopes that your experiments would make her stronger. Burn-Char is well read and highly opinionated, she will hold a bitter grudge against those who sway your will against hers.
Vassals:
Tormonulorg: An ancient and respected Orc who has watched over Lower Titan Pass from Fort Canyon-Walls for generations. An old injury to the throat has rendered him mute. It is not common knowledge, but you know him to be a vampire. He is in dire straights as Arrugup refused to support him.
Year 456. Middle of the Fourth Month:After six days navigating the somewhat trecherous Titan Pass, you at last make it to Fort Canyon-Walls which marks the northern border of your new holdings. As the name suggests, the fort mainly consists of two walls spanning a narrow canyon, with a tower and living hall situated in the semi-natural courtyard they create. Although three days away from the closest civilization, you have been lead to understand that this fort is one of your key strategic holdings - should the humans and elves go to war, either side could use Titan Pass, which crosses through your lands, to bypass the front and strike at the heartland of the other. Should the elves choose to invade you in hopes of claiming the pass for themselves, Fort Canyon-Walls would be your first and greatest line of defense. You are shocked then to find it so undermanned.
It takes the three guards present outside 45 minutes to let the drawbridge down for you, and as you are lead inside to meet with the commander you only count another two soldiers. Your band is brought into the hall and seated at the benches, and a woman pushing middle age is brought in to play harp for you while you wait for the food to be presented and the commander to make himself presentable to meet his new lord.
After 30 minutes, an older Orc pushing a cart of food enters. You recognize him at once as Tormonulorg, the strong and respected commander who has held Fort Canyon-Walls for nearly a century. The officer humbles himself by wordlessly serving you and your band personally before taking a seat, at which point the orcess playing harp speaks up.
"My lord extends his apology for the delay. Your predecessor withdrew support for this installation, so Tormonulorg has been running the fort with nothing more than his personal War Band. I am Malifom, Fate Sister to the Mighty and Just Tormonulorg, who as you must have heard by now is mute, so I speak for him. Most of us are out hunting now, so it is just myself, my master, and six of our men."
"Only six?" Your own Fate Sister Burn-Char pipes in,
"It must truly speak to Arrugup's weakness that a commander as strong as Tormonulorg is in such dire straits.""I will not argue against that claim," Maliform agrees before continuing with what she had been planning to say, "Anyway, my lord would like to recommend that you wait for his hunters to return before you continue on to your seat of power at Castle Powderforged. It is only three and a half days march from here, but no fewer than three individuals from the castle and the neighboring village of Twin-Smithy have requested that my lord pledge them an oath of fealty since Arrugup died, so you might want some more Orcs at your back in case you have to prove your strength to claim what you have rightfully inherited."
You glance at the commander as his Fate Sister speaks. You are fairly sure you can trust Tormonulorg. It is far from common knowledge, but the respected officer is actually a vampire of the Greyjuiced Bloodline, a breed known more for intelligence and willpower than any physical attribute. When you were but a lad, Maliform would sometimes visit your grandmother to buy Synthetic Dragon's Blood, a potent and addictive drug for vampires, on her master's behalf. Several of your vampire contacts back home have suggested that he could be trusted to serve you loyally, and you have brought along several bottles of the potion he craves as a gift to ensure this.
Once you finish your food, a comfortingly familiar slab of Elk Bird steak roasted in Sweet Pod sauce, Maliform invites you and your officers to her chambers so that you may grill her in private on the state of the Three Valleys.
What do you ask? And what other actions might you take?
