So my DsFi is max level and has three runes. I was thinking that I'd do Crypt, Zot and then switch to Ash and do the rest of Extended. Ashenzari seems like they'd be the best choice, since I'd be able to pipe all my Invocations[Almost 26 levels of the stuff] into Necromancy so I can use the Necronomicons' spells to mitigate torment and such. Kikubaaqudgha seems like a decent second choice because of their torment and death curse resistance, but its harder to gain piety with them and I'd have wasted a bunch of xp training invocations.

I ascended a 15 runes DsFi of Ash before and you don't even realise how lifesaving it is. You get a free amulet of clarity at all time (pretty much mandatory if you want to be in lichform), free spell levels and above all : monster and portal detection. Besides the slime pits and tomb all the runes are in level in which you really don't want to dwell. Seing the portals to dive deeper and the monsters to avoid the bigger dangers is what makes Ash an awesome god.

Don't make the mistake of pushing too hard for necromutation though, it's almost always a bad spell to invest in and you may have other ways to deal with extended. Haste and some ranged option will make you stronger in most cases. You can consider mass abjuration too, it's a fine spell in extended.

I've got Haste and a decent slew of utility spells, several of them Necromancy related. I found a glowing triple crossbow in Lair, so I could probably go back, get that, and use that and a great mace instead of my Eveningstar. I'd have to invest some spell levels in Portal Projectile to make it worthwhile and scrounging a bajillion and one bolts off the dungeon floor is sure to be fun, but if I poured my wasted Invocations xp into Crossbows, I'd wager I could be a terror. Only problem there is I'd need a bunch of enchant weapon scrolls for my crossbow and my mace and I'd need to keep my great mace and my triple crossbow uncursed, which could be problematic with Ash.

Can you get chunks as a vampire? I'm thinking about Simulacrum. My vampire is doing amazing, I found two rings of stealth in a row, then a randart +7 flame brand rapier, but I would like to learn some necromancy in case my Hexes won't work anymore.

Simulacrum no longer uses chunks, but instead corpses.

Ugh, and I start my next game as a Draconian and get Pale form. Would have preferred literally any other colour.
Don't pale draconians have steam breath? That's probably the best breath you can get, infinite targeted scrolls of fog!
Congrats on the win btw.
Minotaur is still kicking. The Elven Halls was awful; I got banished and almost died in the abyss. I dove to abyss:3 to try to find an escape sooner, and stumbled upon a temple to Lugonu with the rune! But before I could reach it I got teleported away by some guy with a distortion quarterstaff. Finally escaped though, and the only notable Elf:3 loot was a +13 CPA of rElec (which is nice, but I already had a CPA and rElec). Even the hall of blades was a disappointment. Oh, and there was a bazaar with three lame food shops and one overpriced potion shop. Maybe I'll have better luck in the vaults.

Bah just lost a very nice HuFi of TSO to a bunch of ogre mage casting crystal spears. I had a demon blade blade to convert too.

managed a 2nd win - DsFi of Oka->Kiku. Got pretty luck with mutations - torment resistance, demonic guardian, and magical essence/shield. scales were poison but were superfluous - i had too much of them. the real luck was with oka, though. first gift was a randart exec axe, freezing, +6 enchant, +5 strength. towards the end i also found randart cloak with +10 strength. final total was 48 i think.

turns out the game is pretty easy when you find a +6 ring of slaying in the first 50 turns...

resists were trouble most of the game though. couldn't even kill lom lobon, and my final armor was just a +8 fire dragon armour.

Magic Link is part of the mana shield demonspawn mutation set. First you get Spirit Shield (some damage goes to mp instead of hp), then fast mp regen, then "Magic Link" where your HP regeneration goes to your MP instead if your MP is low. It's pretty great overall, especially for a non caster.

Huh, I just wandered into a labyrinth with lava, basilisks, and a portal to the Abyss - I didn't even know that was a possibility.
