Memorial slab
« on: November 02, 2015, 06:34:12 am »

My king's ghost has returned after his appointment with the atom-smasher  :o

I ordered two slabs built and ordered a memorial to be carved for the ghost at the craftsman's workshop; I also mined out a Memorial Hall.

Now when I go into the build menu and select "Alt/s" build Slab, to place the slab in the Memorial Hall, I do not see an option to build a specific slab.
The wiki says that a specific slab can be selected when choosing materials, but the slab has already been built and carved.
When I check at the Craftsman's workshop and select "Engrave Memorial Slab" and scroll down the list, the ghost's name shows "Slab Engraved and a red "Ghost" beside the name.

When I place a slab in the Memorial Hall, I can place any number of them but can see no option to place the Memorial slab I've engraved.
So, how do I place the slab I have built and engraved?

When you go to build your slab, push 'x'.
This will expand the list of your slabs to a detailed view so you can see who is engraved on what.

Ok, thanks.
I had "Planning mode" on and this seems to hide the "x" list of slabs.

"Sakzul Idadag, Ghostly Glassmaker has been put to rest."  :'(

This game is funny  :)

And the 'x' expansion is used for other cases where you want to select an individual item (such as e.g. a cage containing a specific critter, or when the default selection of building material insists on starting to select the log down in hole you want to build your staircase into to get the wood dropped there [which obviously is accessible only if the builder was down in the hole already]).

There is something so satisfying about a ghost being put to rest.

Here is a tangential question -- is there any quality level to the engraving of a memorial slab (in addition to that of slab itself from the mason)?  Of course it doesn't seem that way, but I wondered if it were just not easy to find the same way as the quality level of an architect's design.

I used slabs extensively, don't remember any quality in engraving.

Cool, but wouldn't this likely lead to tongues having a '[SPEACH]' tag, and thus via necromancy we would have nearly unkillable reanimated tongues following necromancers spamming 'it is sad but not unexpected'?

...planning mode?

The option "P" pops up when building a slab at the memorial location.

It's part of DFHack. Some people seem to think it's part of DF itself.

It allows you to designate things without actually having the materials, and it fills in the build order when it can.
