She holds out the box of chocolates.  It probably contains maybe 4 to 6 chocolates.

Alanis deposits the box of chocolates she bought in front of Sandra via patent-pending wormhole transport.  The box is wrapped in a ribbon, to which is tied a tag, like you'd find on a Christmas gift.  That is, if you didn't care that you had not yet wrapped the gift when you tied the ribbon around it.

There are signs that there's writing on the other side, including a "turn over" arrow.

Indeed ENG's assumtion is correct. the cannons do use a built in primer system, based on it's internals, that uses electrical energy to launch munitions via a plasma burst. Checking the systems, he would notice the large xenon tanks built into the ships sub systems.

"Ion thrust accelerated shells. Seems rather inefficient velocity wise, but I suppose it was meant to be used in space."
Adjusting his designs to work alongside it, he would also check the xenon tank supplies. Maybe they're empty?
