((I honestly have no idea. I guess just have a weird interest in altered states of consciousness, probably since after a high-fever in my childhood I now feel uneasy about the texture of dried paint and circular brass doorknobs.

So feel free to use that against me if you somehow end up running a Don't Rest Your Head game on the forums, presumably one that replaces Madness with Shipping and Exhaustion with More Shipping ))

((Er, right, about that. I'm currently looking into actually running a bastardized version of the DRYH system right now, but it's for the kind of game most of the people here wouldn't like. As in one of those free-for-all deathmatch games.))

It has come.

First comes the stench. The sickly odor of death and decay. Then, thick, choking smog billows upon you from all sides, smothering all light. Finally, the emergency lights kick in, soulless crimson eyes piercing the darkness. Damn it all. Even with this light, the thick fog conceals all but the faintest of details. You are in another chamber with pillar-like structures. That much you can make out.

You cannot see the contents of the pillars, or at least, not at this distance. But, in the short lengths of silence, the gaps of the alarm as it loops back to the beginning, you can hear them. A sort of quiet sloshing, amidst the panicked and dying squawks that have subsumed the distant birdsong.

You are sprawled at the bottom of the stairs sore but unharmed. Behind you, there are more stairs heading further downward, in front of you are the pillars of unknown contents. Above, the crimson lights shine down, the only clear visages within the roiling haze. In the corners of your vision you see things. Glimpses. Sudden movements within the fog. The glint of metal. Distant figures. Mounds of corpses. For a moment, you could of sworn that from the corner your eye, you could see one of the crimson lights open, like a set of eyelids, to reveal an abyssal darkness. A void that was darker than black.

They are formed of bleached bone twisted into a blasphemous mimicry of bandages, wrapping around and around in the form of a mummy. Flayed skin hangs upon them, stitched together and tattooed with the incomprehensible symbols of a long dead tongue. Formless, indescribable implements of glistening steel pin its torn chest open, restraining the struggling bone as it bleeds with a scarlet ichor. Inside, lies an infinite expanse of defiled, leprous flesh. From within, countless nameless appendages for which neither language nor thoughts can ascribe a description reach forwards towards you. Mechanical, yet resembling no mechanism in existence, indeed you can only see their outlines, which consist of the wisps of smoke, the silhouettes of the room, and the brief images that flicker into your vision. Disturbingly enough, the extremities of the outlines appear to be undergoing rapid ossification, bone beginning to form in the very air only to flake away, leaving contrails of black light in their wake.

and as is evident, it ain't too horrifying. Plus DRYH works best with people you know a lot more about, since the fears are best made to target the players rather than their characters.))
