"Well.  I was actually kind of wondering about flight.  Like, biological flight."

Sandra eventually stops, myriad scraps around her mouth, and goes off to clean.

"What about it? It is hardly difficult to accomplish. Birds, bats and insects do it all the time!"

"For humans."

[USEC_OFFICER]

"Are you asking whether it is feasible to adapt a human for biological flight? At that point they would no longer be human!"

[TheBiggerFish]

"Humaniform, then.  I mean, except the wings."

[USEC_OFFICER]

"It is entirely possible to do so but would require extensive modifications! Your skeletal structure and flesh would have to be altered to be lightweight as possible and massive muscles would need to be grafted onto your body to provide sufficient power to a wingspan a couple of meters long. I do not have the equipment to calculate the necessary modifications, but I can assure you that they would be extremely extensive! You would be humaniform only outwardly! How exciting!"

"Ah.  Figured as much.  Given our time constraints of imminent apocalypse, I guess that's a moonshot kind of thing."

[USEC_OFFICER]

"Hardly! With the equipment in Al-Rama I could easily develop something like that with a week! Most of it would have already been pre-designed of course. You could hardly expect me to construct such a thing from scratch!"

[TheBiggerFish]

"How long would it take to actually implement?  Once you have it."

[USEC_OFFICER]

"It depends on how well you accept the splices! Or rather, how well your nervous system adapts after being transplanted into a new body! Obviously I would need to conduct some tests before I can give you an answer!"

[TheBiggerFish]

"Yeah, that would put a wrench in the works...Eh.  I wasn't expecting it to even be THAT easy."

[USEC_OFFICER]

"In Al-Rama, we have been on the cutting edge of biology and genetic modification for two years now! Why would it not be that easy? Have you not seen the work done on my body? How wonderful! It is equally extensive when compared to the human form!"

[TheBiggerFish]

"Yeah, but I figured it was probably incremental.

It'd be awesome if that was actually doable though."

[USEC_OFFICER]

"Of course not! Occasionally you must completely overhaul your physical form for a superior one! Afterwards you can conduct incremental changes to ensure maximum efficiency, but if your base biology is subpar then no amount of incremental changes will improve it! You must completely change it! How exciting!"
