The issue for me is that this system is time consuming to roll for, and I don't really have a lot of time. That, and a few abilities don't really cover all that a Magical Girl can do. Maybe something that's more guided freeform, kind of like RotMGv4 or the Accel World game Elf's starting?

edit@Dark Souls: i've never really been interested in it. From what I've heard and seen it's basically MonHun with more RPG elements and trial-and-error gameplay.

it's true

i saw some dude fight what was it, Nameless King without rolling, parrying, or armor? either way, this supposedly super hard boss had like, three attacks, and all of them were telegraphed as fuck. From other descriptions I've heard the game likes to basically throw shit that you can't beat unless you've seen it before and know it's about to show up.

Then again, my sources are biased, being mostly Monster Hunter players.

i mean, monhun also has hugely (or somewhat less hugely (COUGH EVERY FIRST GEN MONSTER)) telegraphed attacks, and each boss might have 3 attacks, but each of those attacks is going to have multiple variations (e.g. Rathian's charge vs triple charge vs charge into tailspin)

introducing the Cephadrome

an "easy" monster that you encounter in high rank and early G-rank, native to the desert
cephadrome's habits include:
-swimming under the sand for a fucking eternity
-brushing you with its fin and paralyzing you while doing so
-having very floppy and difficult to predict motions
-also inflicting waterblight, which reduces stamina regen a fuckload
-instacharges
-the infamous plesioth hipcheck, that has a stupid hitbox and comes out quickly
-only staying in two zones of the map
-having shitloads of smaller minions that do the same things

enter Line in the Sand, a G-rank key quest where you fight two at once.

I think despite the reviews the leading two actors did a solid job and that's what matters in a drama set piece.

Not really trial-and-error. You can pretty safeguard against if not anticipate a lot of the stuff just by being observant and being cautious. I personally find it more comparable to a fighting game, though that might just be due to me watching more PvE than PvP footage.
