"Bits are bits" is irrelevant. First of all, even if they are, it means very little -- bits are parsed in specific ways and you need the correct translator to get their meaning. Trees and furniture all boil down to wood, but it's the way they're used that matters: If I threw a branch into the ground, I wouldn't get my bedroom dresser. Vietnamese is letters just like English but I have no idea how to read Vietnamese. And there's no guarantee bits ARE bits in the Star Wars universe. Remember, bits are artificial and pre-defined. Who says that the Star Wars universe doesn't send its data in core packets of 7, 9, or 16 digits? Who even says they use binary?

And there is no reason that Star Wars communication would be similar. Earth does not exist in the Star Wars universe. The history of Earth computer science and technology does not exist. Most of their other technologies are alien to us -- why wouldn't communications technology be even more so? There is no reason to assume similarity, as no common base at all exists between the computer history of the two universes.

he has a point, the battle droids were being commanded from orbit as well as presumably coordinating actions over a local network,
But this functionality is NOT the same at all as access to an open network. In fact, it would be exceptionally, exceptionally stupid to allow battle droids access to open networks, as it would open up hilariously terrible vulnerability to cyber warfare.

It would be stupid to let them connect to an unsecured network without authorization, yes.

Fundamental physics says they use binary, PM.

You're also thinking bytes, not bits.  A bit is one binary digit.

Those are weasel words. Explain precisely why they could not have created a system besides binary. You might bring up logic gates, but who's to say they don't use three-state logic gates or more?

There's only two ways of magnetizing iron.

They use different metals and ores than iron.

They are in an entirely different galaxy, with different resources, different technological progression, and so on and so on. There is no reason at all to assume they'd have something even slightly similar to what we have when it's based on entirely different technology. Even if they have an equivalent to wifi, there's no reason it'd be compatible with our stuff.

The thing is, everything boils down to binary.  It's not 'entirely different'.  It presumably started from the same roots.

To quote a Wikia for Starwars:

Quote
Preceded by the archaic CBell-1, the droidspeak standard was established by Industrial Automaton's line of astromech droids. It later became the standard mode of communication for droids from many manufacturers, all of whom paid IA a small licensing fee to use the language. The father of modern droidspeak was considered to be cyberphilologist Yperio Baobab, of the prestigious Baobab family. His program, created circa 200 BBY, allowed droids to communicate much more complex concepts than "yes" and "no." With Bab-Prime, as it was dubbed, droids could recall and pass on sensory-gathered data between one another. Some time later, a cybersociologist working for the Baobab Merchant Fleet added a layer of code to the programming which gave droids an "essence of personality." Consequently, this code acted like a rampant computer virus that spread across the entire droid population. Droids then began to exhibit personality traits ranging from arrogance to comradeship. As a result, droidspeak flourished and transformed from Bab-Prime into Bab-Neo, or "Babno" as it was known. While some droid owners preferred this new mode of interactivity between droid and master, others chose to wipe their droids'

Thsi means that Binary in Star Wars, is Not a valid programing language because it is the beeps and boops that the early Droids made for communication. your arguement that Binary was the base programming language in Starwars is invalid.

It's COMPUTERS.

So?

Physics is still physics!

"Yes" and "No" aren't on/off?

And what was that program programmed in?

You're conflating the complexity of the output with the complexity of the coding language.

AND BINARY ISN'T EVEN A LANGUAGE IT'S A NUMBER SYSTEM!

Not necessarily. They could have three-state-buffers or the like.

Also, sure, it's "COMPUTERS", but not computers from the same universe. The base technology is necessarily different.

Ternary computers even exist for us.

AND WHO SAYS THEY WORK THE SAME WAY AS IN OUR GALAXY?

Why do we even try to argue logically with TBF anymore when they just ignore whatever points we come up with, no matter how valid? At this point it'd be easier to just say no than to argue against incomplete logic.

No wait, that wikia is just flat-out not talking about the actual processing layer.

It states that a previous system of literally yes or no existed, but was replaced.

In response to your post-edit comment: Yep. It sure doesn't.

And here's the thing -- you can argue about binary all you want, but even if you succeed that argument, you have to explain why there's similarity on every other layer of complexion and coding and permissions beyond that. The chances of systems from entirely different technological histories being the exact same on all the complex levels is vanishingly minuscule.

No.

It states that the outputs of the system were Y/N.

The outputs have little to do with the internals.

You are literally arguing against yourself here. That's one less reason to assume they use binary.
