Really though, Early in the fight, anything they do is going to be 1 health heals, or 1 damage attacks, so that is the balancing aspect, is that they need time to be useful at all, and their limit-break combo takes an absurdly long time for one payout, at which point they are back to 1 damage and one heal.

For the sake of reference, how does equipment work anyway? As in, what level does it start off at normally? The same level as the person it spawned on? How are upgrade slot quantities determined? Are they just leveled up via crafting?

They start level 1, and gain levels, upgrade slots, and bonuses with upgrades using junk.

It depends. You may choose to level equipment with you or you may choose to leave it to be upgraded with crafting. The former option works with more unique weapons such as Mio's Hero equipment or Hunter weapons for their individual Hunters (>.>).

Yeah, as you said, more or less. As far as I know, Mio's Fairy mechanic is the only mechanic that allows for new aspects for levelling weapons, all other levelled weapons can only increase in damage or improve a current aspect.
