To be fair, short of Neo, there's almost nobody in the setting with the power to generate illusions. You would have to prove that someone deliberately sabotaged it with their Semblance or something else. Even worse if Neo's Semblance is rare or if it wasn't a Semblance-induced illusion.

Which would be damn hard either way, considering, well, you would have to prove the presence of an illusionist.

Everyone seemed pretty damn surprised, too. Weiss will definitely flip shit, but Blake and Ruby might not be too hard to convince she didn't do it.
Also, there's a 50/50 chance Yang just bolts or something, because, you know, cliffhanger ending.

Well, besides team RWBY knowing Yang wouldn't do that, CFVY also knew about the illusions, so there's two already. And I'm certain the SSSN and the remains of JNPR. Also, Qrow and any one else that would know Yang well.

JNPR wouldn't know, IIRC, as they never fought Neo and don't know Yang as well as Qrow or RWBY would. Neither would SSSN. CFVY might know, but it's their word against Mercury's and the rest of the stadium's.

Basically, it's the word of about four or five, maybe six people against the word of thousands who saw the damn thing happen, with no evidence to back them up that it was sabotage and no proof to say Yang did otherwise. Even if they managed it, Cinder would be able to use it as a distraction to go break shit, so she wins either way.

CFVY barely spoke to RWBY. Ever. The most they've probably interacted was after Break and.. some other times I know I forgot.

But team CFVY DO know of Neo's illusion powers, IIRC. Not that it matters too much, as the evidence is way too stacked against Yang.

Yeah, but from what I know, they knew about the illusions. And I never said anything about convincing people Yang's innocent, this isn't the season for that, I'm just talking about people that would help with a break out.

Nah, I don't think they do. The two times Neo's used illusions in front of anyone were with Torchwick (so only RWBY could have seen) and, technically, again on the train, where only Masked Samurai Lady saw. Because Yang was KTFO.

That would make matters WORSE and make it even harder to prove Yang innocent of any crime. Although knowing them, I'd think only Weiss or Blake would object with that exact objection before they execute a breakout.

I'm also wondering exactly what was going on there. Mercury's Aura definitely ran out as everyone saw, and he went sliding away, attacked, etc. But was that the illusion, which someone put on for Yang? Or was what everyone else in the stadium saw the illusion? And if the second is true, why the hell would Mercury attack with no Aura, unless specifically trying to frame Yang?

I'm assuming Neo put an illusion on Yang's perception, as it makes more sense than her managing to fool both cameras AND the entire audience. More plausible and less detectable, too. After all, it will make Yang look VERY bad.

That last bit answered your own question. Why would Mercury intentionally attack? To Frame Yang.
