Attacking a weakpoint is a valid tactic.
Instakilling all enemies of a certain type isn't a tactic, it's just being OP.

And there's no one who can do that. If there were someone who could do that I'd suggest an alternative that still makes sense but as there is no need for it the point is moot.
Alternatively, unplugging the HDD.  Whatshisface can do that.  The necromancer.  With the ghosts.  Heck, Alan probably could if he knew where it was.

The point is, attacking a weak point is a valid way to take down an enemy.

Or a good way to piss it off and cause it to protect it ala Quadraxis >.>

Well, we can fix that later when he's online.

And the point is that, yes it is a valid strategy, but no, an instant kill against a broad category of enemies isn't a valid ability in a multiplayer game.

Or, if it doesn't HAVE an HDD and doesn't build like a normal robot, that's the best way to get yourself shot in the head.

Also, yes. I am obsessed with doing this, I know, but here is good example:
Mio using her armor-piercing attack to bypass an enemy's high RES = Attacking a weakpoint.
Mio instantly killing all enemies who are weak to being punched in the face = Instant killing a broad category of enemies.

You might see why this is a problem.

Or, let's think of this from the other way around. Someone makes a boss who can instantly kill magic users vs. a boss that is geared towards killing magic users but is weaker to hitty guys.

Yes, I see it, Elf, but this is a thing the GM needs to resolve, not myself.

And no, Mio killing all enemies that are weak to being punched in the face is not analogous to Alan having to get lucky and actually hit the hard drive with his magnet.  And not everything necessarily HAS hard drives that are vulnerable to magnets.

Maybe he has a higher chance of critical hits on robots, if it's just "getting lucky"?

Of course, Twin is neither man nor woman but an unholy eldritch abomination like every other Bay12er. The difference is they hide it better.

.....it is analogous?

The way you've put it is that that lucky power translates to instant-killing all robots with that power, which is the point I was trying to make. You may have INTENDED it otherwise, but you know what we saw.

Maybe he has a higher chance of critical hits on robots, if it's just "getting lucky"?
This makes more sense.

Anyway, as GM, I'm going to say no to increased power against robots, that makes no sense, not every robot has an HDD or equivalent thing vulnerable to magnetism, etc, etc. Metallic beings, yes, but even then it won't be an instant kill.

sanure, with enough effort ANYONE can understand technology.
IT takes a lot of time and research, also known as trial and error, but it can be done regardless of the type.

If it has a HDD, I reserve the right to call physics and wipe it.

Crystalline data structures might be good for avoiding this problem.

Yes.

Except he didn't put the time, and he has no research either.

Also, the technology is alien enough that he'd likely need more than just a bit of luck and some knowhow.... >_>

And we reserve the right to call phlebotinum-covered HDDs. Or not use them. At all.

The thing is, with robots, the weak point is a racial triat.
Alternatively you can stop being an asshole and realize that you are the only one who thinks that this is alright.

Fine by me.  CD-RW doesn't use magnets, I don't think, so you can use something like that too.

Maybe he has a higher chance of critical hits on robots, if it's just "getting lucky"?
This. So much this.
But that doesn't even make SENSE.
Magnetizing a hard drive will either work completely, cause a restore from backup, or not work at all.  There is no real damage value to it.
