I don't think I've ever made an expy.

Hozuki's probably the only one I've made in that department. For the express purpose of horrifying Twin and Corsair.

Well the idea was that hopefully they'd be shippable enough to interact frequently with PCs, the ideal scernario being that end up paired up with Yuri or Laura. And that eventually someone will notice how the details add up:

>Scared by electrical bolts
>Name is that of a kind plant that are also called Winter Lanterns

Hey, if you ever get a chance to try and ship the character of a Bloodborne player with someone that's based off of the second-most frustrating enemy from it, you take it!

And yeah, I wasn't kidding when I mentioned I put more time and effort into my gimmicky NPC sheets than my actual PC.
How does grid-based combat even work? I mean, I see mentions of it every now and then, but I haven't managed to find a rule write-up, and I've been wondering whether there's anything to balance the greater effective range of well, ranged attacks in it.

That kind of grid-based combat certainly looks interesting, and won't really raise the issue wherein Simuna just laughs at melee characters while hugging the edge of the battle map.

But seriously, how is movement and range even handled in grid-combat? Since you know, ranged character can attack from significantly greater distances. Does everything just get Ranged-Type Damage Reduction or something?

No, and this isn't Fire Emblem. Unless the GMs literally ripped out the mechanics from it and melded it with the stat system.
