Domurinn: An Open-World Adventure (D&D 3.5 IC)

OOC Thread

You all wake up in the ruins of an inn.

A light snow is falling on your face as you blearily open your eyes. You look around, and see the charred remains of stone walls and wooden timbers, most of the roof collapsed. You can still smell smoke, and a few small fires burn here and there. Little remains but the door, and a glimpse of flesh, cloth, and blood here and there tells you how lucky you are to be alive.

Last night, you heard screaming, saw fire, and in the midst of the panic you found yourself unconscious. What could have happened last night?

Tradok sniffs the air, smelling the familiar scent of death. Then panic lights up in his eyes.
 "Mordor, Sheila!"
Within an instant, the armored barbarian charges outside to the stable.

Sokratei sat up out of a swoon, looking a bit worse for the wear. The tip of her left horn had been sheared off by some violent impact. She frowned, rubbing the stump.

"...Oof. Did a Star fall out of the sky...? And, what happened to all the colors...we were close to finding the end of a thing..." She mumbled, feeling confused.

"Oh, Tama, where are you?", Sokratei said sadly, looking for her overlarge tiger friend...she couldn't help but feel a moments deep fear. What if she was buried in rubble? Injured badly? Sokratei did not know any medicine...there were a lot of things she didn't know how to do...that's why Tam Barl Daar was with her...

Action: So, how am I personally, and do I have my things with me, mostly intact?

You're mostly fine, save for a little cut or burn here and there; nothing to worry about. Your stuff is fine, aside from a few scratches and burn marks on your clothes.
Within an instant, the armored barbarian charges outside to the stable.
The stables are, thankfully, intact. Your horse is fine, and being the veteran it is it seems unbothered.

As you walk from the inn to the stables, you see that most of the buildings are in ruins. You don't see anybody in the streets, but you do see a few corpses.

Sokratei had been afraid to check her wounds. She had noticed the large wooden stake jutting from her stomach, and removed it gingerly, fearing she might pull out intestines or organs. But, there was no blood. Her shirt (A pretty green silk and white lace dress that had cost quite a bit) was shredded, but the armor was not even scratched-the stake had stuck in harmlessly, cleanly splintering into small shraps and shards. She realized with an internal sigh she was mostly fine. Reflected that if she had not been wearing her armor-the magic chain shirt she had inherited from her mother-she would surely be dead and cold, staked to the ground as cleanly as a vampyr...a close call, surely...she was not the most formidable of figures, nor the most sturdy...but, her luck usually always came through...the luck of the Fey, they called it.

It was sort a joke. If she really was lucky, why would she be here in the first place?

She laughed lightly to herself, perhaps the oddest thing to hear in this situation. But, it was just who she was.

Sokratei rose and went to look for Tam Barl Daar...or what was left of her...the idea that the Weretiger had endured thousands and thousands of years in stone, only to die from a collapsing roof was also funny, in a very terrible way. She hoped it wasn't true.

The tiger woke slowly, among the ashes.

It opened eyes to darkness, and weight pinning it down, and a moment's panic sent her shoving upwards, and the darkness gave with the sound of grinding timbers and fallen stone. Tam Barl Daar shook herself off, dust and debris cascading from her fur. Her natural toughness had protected her... she'd not yet seen the bricks of a building coated in vile silver.

Where was her friend? The horned girl? She looked around, sitting back on her haunches for now while she orientated herself. Was she in a room, outside, where?

You are inside a destroyed inn common room. The doors (save for the one to the outside) and the stairs are blocked by various fallen pieces of wood and stone. The roof is gone.

With a splitting headache, Nix gives a groan as he wakes up to the familiar feeling of a bird driving it's sharp beak into his side. Groggily waving his hand at Merle, his familiar, to back off, he sits up, and glances around.
"Well, crap. How drunk was I last night?"
"You were pretty drunk. You tried to drink a Dwarven mining squad under the table," snickers Merle.
"Oh, come off it," Nix replies dismissively. Merle shrugs with his wings.
After patting himself down, and checking that all of his belongings still belong to him, Nix hoists his pack onto his back.
Nix explores the pillaged town. Who did this? Is anyone still alive? Are there any valuables, alcohol or miscellaneous tools in the ruins of the village?

Sokratei was still a bit woozy, but she was regaining her bearings quickly enough.  Some part of her still wanted to find her bed and go to sleep, but she couldn't remember if the inn had a second floor (past tense) or not, so there likely wasn't a bed left...

She saw the large feline shape shrug off the piles of stone and wood as if they were a coat of leaves. The Half-Satyr made her way over to the Weretiger, listing slightly to the left.

"Tama! You're okay...I shouldn't have been worried...barely anything can hurt you..." She said fretfully, helping to swipe dust out of the weretigers fur, and picking out splinters and bits of brick and plaster. She helped blow out a stray ember from her fur before it caught alight. She wasn't normally so motherly, but she had really been quite distressed.

"Do you have any idea what happened last night? The last thing I remember...oh, we had just gotten the Behir Kebabs, hadn't we...then everything blew up. I admit I wasn't paying attention...there was that cute fellow with the golden hair..." Reflected that fellow has almost certainly crushed by stones. What a waste...

"Either way, we should get out of her before the rest of the place decides to come down. Or it decides to come back...whatever it was..."

Tradok mounted his horse and rode throughout the ruined town in search of life, friend or foe.

The ruins of the town are empty, as far as you can see.

Most of the stuff you find is damaged beyond use.

After quite a while, you hear some voices from around a corner. They speak in gruff, menacing tones; you can't make out what they're saying through their thick foreign accents.

Nix nods purposefully for Merle to go drop in on their conversation, while finding a place to hide.

Tam Barl Daar endured the fussing, nuzzling up against the horned girl's hand. Still, her tail waved in agitation as she inspected Sokre's own person for any injuries... she did not have the tiger's supernatural toughness, after all.

Elise wakes up with a groan, looks around, and starts cursing in Draconian. "What in the name of Bahamut went on last night?! Did an evil dragon attack?"

She then gets up and wanders over to what appears to be the only people left alive. "Do you have any clue as to what transpired last night?"

No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.
