Vera nods, and begins going around and healing anyone who is wounded.

"At least we're done with that nonsense, but it is worrisome.  If the false Emperor has drawn back regular patrols enough that brigands would find room to prosper this close to a major city, that augurs ill for the Empire should the present situation persist."

"Serving in Cafvaden allowed me to learn that badlands are home to many unwelcome people."

"Still, I don't think such large groups should be roaming so close to the settlements. I will have to deal with this. Now, I want to hear what you say to my next idea-"

"Does it include splitting up?"

"No?... Oh." Titon looked at Odysios for a moment. "No, I was considering crossing the Blacksand Desert straight through rather than following the northern path through its outskirts."

"Sir, Blacksand Desert has even more bandits than the badlands. Nobody sane goes there voluntarily."

"Indeed. I heard stories that this sea of sand is full of gangs and thug families preying on travelers of all kinds."

"I know that... but I'm pretty sure that Lafach knows by now where I'm headed, and his men will heavily patrol the roads."

"So we would trade traitors for bandits. Hardly a more optimistic choice..."
