"Hmmm? We have been hired by this guy named Lord Sobriel. He told us that a 'friend of his who might happen to be a purple-haired royal of highest heritage' might be in trouble and told us to look about here. Chance encounter with those other guys wasn't in the plan but I managed to get us through to you anyways." Prince Titon looked at Odysios and then approached him...

...and it was evident just how short Odysios was. Prince Titon was above average at best but Odysios was shorter by a head.

"I thought my hero and savior would be a little tall-WOAH THERE" The tip of the scimitar almost touched Titon's nose.

"How dare you, scum!" Captain Orena drew her sword, Titon raised his hand, Odysios withdrew own blade.

"Hmph. I saved your butt, but height jokes set me off. Don't."

"Apologies, it was really short-sighted of me."

Cricket noises.

"_Sorry." Odysios took a breath while Captain Orena massaged her face with her palm.

[Twinwolf]

"Sit still when I heal you, or the rib you broke won't set right."

[GiglameshDespair]

There was another clang as Chalco's palm met his helm again.

"Don't get murdered before I regain my family's land, please, Prince. And you! Mercenary! Point your weapon at him again and I'll discipline you."

[Culise]

From behind them, Lizbet slowly lowered her spear from a position ready to drive it into Odysios' back.
"By all means, let us endeavour to keep the peace for now.  We have just finished one battle; let us not fight amongst ourselves when another is just over the horizon."

She turned, looking northward to where Trakia had fled. 
"Captain Trakia shall almost certainly return with whatever reinforcements she can requisition from the nearest garrison.  I suggest we take only what time we need to prepare ourselves and continue on our way.  We have several options that I see, but I do not believe we need to make an immediate decision, not before we reach the next crossroads."

[Deidei]

: "I guess I should keep the shortswordsmen jokes to myself huh? I do hope the Prince stays alive, our payment relies on it."
The grin faded from Niccola's face and she raised her hand slightly in greeting.
"Anyway, I'm Niccola Natoli, one of Odysios' mercenaries."

[Culise]

"A pleasure.  I've introduced myself to you already, but for the benefit of the remainder of you, I am Lady Lizbet Wyndam, fourth daughter of the Wyndam family."

[CrimsonEon]

The red spearwoman's grip on her lance tightened slightly when the Captain and the Pegasus Rider's weapons were drawn, but soon relented after Odysios calmed down.
: "Oh, is this what we're doing now, Niccola? Getting chummy with the escorts?"
She lifted her lance over her shoulders and lazily pointed a finger at Titon, Chalco and Lizbet, apparently counting to herself.
: "And... hm, apparently three nobles? Color me surprised you made it this far before being outflanked. Oh well, that shouldn't be a problem from here on."

[Haspen]

"You said that Lord Sobriel sent you to find us?"

"Aye, and once I accomplish that, I was told to bring you to a place called Lanka Watchtower. Sobriel said you will know where it is."

"Indeed we do. It's a small watchtower. More of a road stop for couriers and such, really."

"I definitely need an ally. Lord Sobriel commands a certain wealth of land and soldiers in the northwest. I've got to meet with him before I decide about the future. And Lizbeth is right, we should not linger around. If I'm not mistaken, the Lanka Tower is only an hour away from here by horse. Let's go at once!" And they went, the rain beginning to torment them once more. They begun their journey to meet with Lord Sobriel, unaware that by this moment, Lord Sobriel was already... dead.

~~Chapter 2-2: The Extinguished Hope~~

Indeed, just one hour later, the aformentioned tower was visible between the hills; a small, three-story construction with open top floor and small stable adjacent to it's walls.

The vicinity of the tower was quiet. But there were signs of activity; the shoe prints in the mud in front of the tower, four horses and a young wyvern inside the stable.

Prince Titon slid from Lizbeth's pegasus and then approached the tower, protecting his face from the torrential rain. He froze after noticing a tiny detail...

"The door is open." Captain Orena unsheathed her sword, looking around. Then she took her horse closer to Chalco.

"Chalco, I do not wish to use you as a bait, but could you please enter the tower? Your armor will protect you against any knives in the dark, I believe..."

"Did Sobriel betray us?" Titon turned to Orena, but then looked at Odysios.

"I do not know, my Prince, I'm just being cautious."

[GiglameshDespair]

"Very well." Chalco cautiously approached the door, pushing it open with the butt of his spear "Any blackguards inside will regret ambushing a son of the bronze!"

That said, he carefully steeped through the door, glancing to his blindspot quickly before looking around further.

[Haspen]

There was no one inside. There were two long, wooden, locked boxes tucked into the corner of the floor. On the other side of the floor, stairs were leading up to the next part of the tower.

"Anyone in there, Chalco?"

[GiglameshDespair]

"Not unless they're cunningly disguised as boxes... or upstairs."

He strode over to the stairs and looked up.

[Kansa]

Alice headed into the tower slowly,she walked towards the boxes and examined them.

[Culise]

Lizbet lifted off, seeking a higher vantage from which to watch for anyone approaching the tower or activity on the roof. 

[Haspen]

Alice could see that the boxes were usual wooden box for storing stuff in. Both were locked, and with no key in sight, lockpicks were required.

Chalco could see a grim sight once he entered the upper floor. There were five bodies; one man in his forties and other half his age, in noble gear, plus three guards in uniforms. All the bodies were laying against the staircase leading to the final floor.

Then, just as Lizbeth was flying up with her pegasus, several silhouettes ran up from behind the trees and from behind the stables. It was obvious that...

"It's a trap!"

"Chalco! Alice! Get out of there!" But there was little time for that.
