And then...

"Uttar pashchimee, mere bhagavaan!"

"..." The Pahravanite commander gritted his teeth, because...

A group of wyvern riders from northwest entered the area!

"Commander! The pahravanites have already assaulted some hapless travelers!"

"Tsk, the scouts were right after all. If the siege continues..." The woman shook her head and pointed her lance toward the road. "Onwards! We have to save our countrymen from the enemy! Let our mages onto the ground, first." A monk and a sister were dropped gently onto the dust.

It was difficult to say, whether or not the priestess' harried expression was just because it was her usual expression during skirmishes, or because situations don't look so good for the travelers.

"Oh, sure, everyone's fighting everyone. Why not? It's not like the Pahravanites are there?" Lars observed to Cúrua. "Brigands, perhaps? But I'm sure you will figure out who to subdue, Brother Seastrider." Of course, "Brother" in this case being just a term of mutual occupation rather than religion.

Cúrua shrugged casually, eyeing the skirmish going on in front of them.

"The only explanation I can think of is that a bandit raid got interrupted by our horse-riding friends, but both those groups look too well outfitted for desert raiders.

"Commander Firzeh, do you have any preference for which Arvadians we keep alive, or can we let the gods sort them out?"

Tick tock tick tock tick tock tick tock-*CRUNCH*

FutureImperfect_Alt.exe is now running.

~~Chapter 6: Imperial Border~~

By the morning of the day after fleeing the haunted ruin, Prince Titon and his companions, a mix of high-born servants and random mercenaries, commoners and tag-along wanderers, have finally stepped outside the sandy desert. But that didn't mean they were safe nor comfortable; there was naught an inn or settlement to hide or rest at, and the spies of the Usurper could be very well perched at the mountaintops, seeking Prince Titon...

The group marched through the rugged terrain, the sand of the desert finally giving in to stones and dried dirt. A sparse tree or spiky bush were all the vegetation of this unpleasant land.

With Chalco and Lizbet in front acting as scouts, they were preparing to finally step into shadow of the mountains; from there, as Prince Titon explained, they would be less than half a day (or less, if they kept the pace) away from the Fortress of Carn, a large and thick defensive structure built at the edge of the Empire, hosting a large garrison of brave men and women, that kept watch over the Kadesh Pass, the only valley leading into Pahravanit territory...

Then, Lizbet and Chalco, being above the ground and all, could see some dust cloud in the hills to the east. It seemed too small and too far from a desert to be a sandstorm, however.

But, suddenly, there was a freak gust of sand blowing from the west, startling horses and getting into peoples' eyes. The sand settled down quite fast - and Prince's group was no longer alone.

"Oh for the love of-"

"I don't leave tasks unfinished, Prince. Now, die."

However, right then, Chalco and Lizbeth could see two groups emerging - from south and east!

"Bhagavaan! Juchh sahee nahin hai! Ham yah sab samay jaldee se chalanevaala the, lekin dushman ham se sahee vahaan dakshin mein hai!"

"Yah unakee dusht jaadoo tona kiya jaana chaahie!!"

"Shaapit ho! Shaapit hamaare dushman aur unakee patniyon aur unake gharon mein ho!!"

Meanwhile, the wyverns from the south didn't feel much more confident.

"Lady Esfir! The Pahravanites almost emerged from the valley, but look! There are some travelers on the road, they will be slaughtered!"

"Stop panicking! It looks like some armed entourage with guards all around it. We just need to get them out of here! HEY YOU! On the pegasus! Get your companions out of here, Pahravanite raiders are coming, this area will be a battlefield soon!" Two of the riders dropped a pair of robed people on the ground.

//Larsarin Tefuric and Curua Seastrider are now in!

Santoku looked around at the enemies that now surrounded the group. An interesting trick, getting around them under the guise of a sandstorm. But a trick, and nothing more. "So, you're after the prince, are ya? Well before you die, let me tell you what you're up against." With a great (and clearly practiced) flourish, Santoku removed his coat from his body in one swift motion, leaving him naked from the waist up.

"The golden swordsman with the silver sword and the azure hair! The mightiest fighter to ever walk this earth, beyond the reach of God and Man alike! The one who tolerates no evil, and cleaves it in twain whenever it is misfortunate enough to fall beneath his boundless sight! That's me, Santoku Nake. I shall give you a single chance to throw down your weapons and leave this place."
