You're cool, no worries! I totally get where you are coming from. I'm finding that with the mental availability I currently have, RE strikes a very, very sweet spot. And I definitely won't disagree I'd like to have more campaign progression :) I'll see what the devs come up with!

Also, if you have any other suggestions of games like FTL/RE, I'd love to have them! :)

Games like FTL/RE... well I've mentioned Sunless Sea back in the thread, but I'm not sure if it's exactly what you're looking for. It certainly has rogue-like aspects, similar to the two mentioned, but the highlight is the atmosphere/writing featured. It's kinda Lovecraftian in nature and contains both dark humor and gripping narrative, maintaining a fine line between them.

Gameplay is not complicated at all, combat is arcade-ish (you use your keyboard and it's real-time, it can feel kinda cumbersome and challenging sometimes, but it's manageable), there's a lot of text and choices and it's really fun exploring the Zee. The main problem, however, is the necessity of grinding from time to time (more time, than time, if you get me...), but I'll recommend it without any doubts. :)

Not necessarily similar to FTL/RE, but another turn-based rogue-like exploration game currently being worked on as Early Access is Curious Expedition.

You travel along the 2D map instead of using nodes, and there is significantly less customization and resources complexity. The difficulty mostly comes from managing your items against finite "sanity" meter which constantly decreases rather than combat, which is mini-game resolved entirely around chaining dice types. The game is also much more RNG dependent, but short length for each campaign (around a hour if you do not die early) makes it work and most challenges can be alleviated with player experience. It's still decidedly Early Access title with lots of bugs and more content to be desired, but it's consistently improving and I would say something worth following if you find the gameplay interesting.

They had a free weekend a while back and I really liked it, but unfortunately the combat was incredibly impossible to get. Still a little too early stages for me to figure out whether I'm comfortable getting into it :)
