A kingdom cannot recrover without a proud ruler. I meet up with the king and try to inspire him with religion. "My lord, in times like these we need the gods the most."

I look around to ask "Classified" if he would help me write up a poster for wanting to hire a demonologist for the kingdom.

Holy crap.  Holtze would have to get into the mage business next.
I pull out a bag of holding, And pile three bars of gold in front of me
Would this be enough?
"Y-yes, Zech, that is very sufficient indeed.  Feel free to use them as you see fit.  Have you considered forming some sort of government mage organization?"

Thank you, and yes I have, But you technically have already.
I will have the mages (General) cast a mass moral improvement spell over the castle, this will end the kings depression.

Uhhh ....

{5} - Hey, ATHATH, crazyabe wants you to work with him to write a poster about hiring a demonologist. Just in case any just happen to be passing through, not trying to stay undercover, and don't immediately think it's a trap.

"Legally" the demonologist would be considered my adviser in the "Darker" parts of magic, and be semi immune to any laws in any regards to magic or demons.

"Classified!" Sir Mangrove shouts as he wanders around the castle. He pauses in one particular spot, producing a note from his pocket and surreptitiously placing it on a particular end table all servants knew to avoid touching or looking at. The message is encrypted, but easy enough to crack if one knows the general rule of ciphering.

Spoiler: The Note, Decrypted (click to show/hide)

Meet up with the king. See what his deal is. Perhaps cheer him up with a tale from the Wilds That Weep, the place where the souls of the terminally sad are gnashed by soul-boring beetles who know nothing of emotion except for its exquisite tang that is brought out by the beetles' particular brand of digestive juices.

"Ah yes," Holtze said, contemplating his personal arcane thugs, completely unaffiliated with the state.  "That's exactly what I've done.  Do try and return them in one piece!"

((I'm afraid i'll be unable to post after today for five days. I'm not crazy enough to let this lot Goldsmith's law me, so can I post conditional actions for each turn I'm away in one post?))

Offer the king a few jugs of my sizable stock of beer. Leave the bandits and the lack of blacksmiths to be someone else's problem. Once the king finished off the beer I 'gifted' to him, offer to give him quite a bit more if he would possibly increase my influence, and take my advice above the other advisers.
