You exist.

Existence is a foreign concept. Before, you knew nothing, sensed nothing. Your "body," such as it can be called, was here before. But you were not. Existence does not mean importance, or even contentment. Your mind is little more than an animal's, driven by nothing other instinct. For the time being. You know, in your own way, that you will be more. Much more.

But that, of course, is neither here nor there. You are driven by your instincts, and now, your instincts give you a single, burning desire. Not a desire. A need.

You need to consume, to spread. To take the world, such that it is, and bring it into yourself.

That is easier said than done. You are, at the moment, nothing more than a structured lump of crystalline matter. But you will grow, of course. You grow even as you become aware. But to keep growing, to conquer everything you know is outside yourself, you will need one thing:

This is an SG where the "main character" is a taint/corruption organism- in other words, a large, hostile blanket of stuff which seeks to consume or incorporate all that lies before it. Options for self-enhancement, minions, and alteration of the ecosystem will become available as the Corruption expands and gains energy, which may result in the presence of elements more typical of an evolution game.

Energy is the most basic resource there is. It represents the corruption's reserves of fuel and chemical energy.

There are all sorts of abilities and self-alterations that can be developed, but energy (and occasionally other resources) will be needed to access them.

How do you get energy, you ask? The easiest way is to consume organic matter. Corruption is, at a basic level, an omnivore, so just about anything will do- plants, animals, even corpses, if it comes down to it. There are other methods, of course, but generally speaking, they're harder, less efficient, or just too slow to provide energy at any reasonable speed. Energy is, among other things, used to fuel growth and self-alteration, so it will almost always be in demand.

There are other, more conventional resources as well. Generally speaking, these need to be discovered by minions or enveloped by Corruption before they can be used.

Currently, the Corruption is a small, barely-sentient mass of crystals. It spreads roughly a foot in every direction, and is practically starving.

The Corruption frankly has no clue where it is. Developing sensory organs might be a good idea.

As such, I actually would propose that we stretch ourself out in a thin film, wait for any positive responses (food), and then send more of our will towards that direction. But overall? +1

You use what energy you have to push your mass outwards, enveloping whatever unlucky creatures might be near. Your total lack of sensory organs doesn't make it easy to determine the results, but a sudden flow of vitality confirms that your "hunt" turned out rather well.

You are still hungry, of course. Hunger gnaws at your very soul. But it lessens. Just a little. Enough for you to think.

You push the new vitality into yourself, a little mournfully. You will hunger afterwards, you know. But feeling is necessary. It will help you to spread, to consume, maybe, someday, to cover the very world.

In little more than a moment, you can feel. You can tell it is not a perfect sense, that there is much room for improvement. But, imperfect as your senses are, they allow you to observe your surroundings.

You appear to be in a forest, dense with all kinds of vegetation. On the edges of your perception, you can feel the vibrations of bushes and shrubs, and the twitches of animals within them. Trees tower over the scene, groaning and creaking in the wind.

A particularly large pang of hunger tears you away. There will be time to observe your surroundings later. For now, it might be best to secure a steady supply of food.

The Corruption remains a crystalline blob, although it may have spread out a little. It has recently developed the capacity to detect vibrations.

It spreads just over a foot in every direction, and is little better than starving.

The Corruption appears to be in a sort of forest, although the vagueness of its vibration-sense makes it difficult to pick out details. More will become apparent with time.
