Combat Reports, Page 1You sit in your pod, awaiting the drop into the urban center. Your squad is to be dropped on the top of a skyscraper to disable radio jammers on the rooftops. Just as you're about to land, the pod smashes into something and the doors fly open. A metal rod stabs through the pod walls and holds it up. You look straight down, and you are being held about 300 stories above ground level by a metal rod. The pod creaks and slightly falls down the rod, and a team member screams and falls out. Your NCO just barely grabs him by the arm, and keeps him from falling all the way down.
"Shit!" you say, "Now my fucking battle fatigues are scratched and my hair is FUBAR! This is a god-damned disaster! Are you slobs paying attention? I said my hair is messed up! It looks like shit! What are we gonna do about that?"
You pull out a comb you carry with you, pull off your battle helmet, and fix your hair a little bit before the pod lurches forward a little more on the metal rod. Your NCO and the dangling team member both fall out. The pod slides forward, and falls off the metal pole. The pod falls to the ground for more than 300 stories before exploding on impact.
Your pod lands directly on its target: a clearing in a forest just outside of a large military installation. The clearing is filling up with pods as hundreds of infantrymen are dropped in to assist in the assault. Your commander orders you to get marching, but just then an explosions rocks the clearing. Then another. Then another. Pods explode and screams echo through the forest. You faintly hear your NCO shouting into the radio, "The drop point is getting hit hard! We need that fucking artillery wiped out!"
You sit tight, trying to bunker down. People try to clear the drop point, running into the forest, but it's no use. The artillery is hammering the clearing too hard. This drop point has been lost. "The drop point is lost," you hear your NCO say, "The drop point is lost." Those are the last words you hear before a shell lands directly on your squad, killing all of you.
You land in the same place that Frostebyte lands. Your squad is filled with veterans from an assault on Hossin, and each one of them can be relied on to protect your ass. They set up a perimeter without needing orders, and your NCO orders you to follow him as you move toward the objective.
Gunfire tears through bodies in the square as your squad huddles in cover between a tree and your drop pod. Your NCO speaks up, "We're gonna head North and link up with platoon command as soon as we can. On me, let's go!" he yells as he heads out of cover and into the road, along with a wave of friendly infantry.
You follow close behind, and your squad regroups in an alleyway just outside of the park. Your NCO kicks down a side door of the alleyway and your team breaches. The room is clear, it's a small lounge room, most likely a break room. You hear commotion from further into the building.
"Xvareon, on point!" your NCO commands. You walk up to the door, and slowly open it with your team covering you. The second the door opens, you hear a cord attached to the door snap. Suddenly, the walls on both sides of the doors explode and two human-size death robots climb through the holes. The explosion sends you to the ground, and you watch as the death robots' miniguns tear your squad apart before turning on you. You fire off what you can of your magazine into the first one before it grabs you by the neck and shoulder and rips your spine and head straight out of your body and tosses both pieces of your body into a wall.
You hop out of your drop pod. You've dropped right in the middle of what seems to be a salvage yard. Your team is a part of an operation to disable a giant enemy death robot before they can activate it. This is a large scale force takeover of the facility, and literally nothing is known about the facility.
"Alright guys, let's stay quiet." your NCO, Collins, says. He's a greenie, this is his first drop. He's trying to prove himself in battle for a platoon commander position. Your squad nods in agreement, and you follow Collins. You can already hear the battle for the facility beginning. The alarm has been sounded and heavy gunfire can be heard in the direction of the facility.
Just as you come into an open area of the salvage yard, you see a team of enemies, five men in green body armor, holding two friendly soldiers in red at gunpoint. Two dead bodies are laying nearby.
You slink behind an old car and take aim at the head of one of the enemies. You take a shot, and it pops the enemy's helmet right off, and sends him to the ground. As soon as you do that, however, the other enemy standing next to him raises his weapon and puts a shot in the back of each of the hostages' heads, before taking a few shots from a team member and going down. The remaining three enemies dive into cover behind nearby cars and begin returning fire.
Your NCO yells for a team member to run off to the left, but a bullet flies straight into his neck mid-command. Blood gushes from the wound as he slowly falls to the ground. "Man down!" a team member yells.
You wait until the enemies are all behind cover before diving across a gap. One of them comes up to get a shot on you but is hit dead in the chest by a team member. You get to your NCO and look at his wounds. His first aid isn't gonna do the job alone, so you set yours to the task as well on him. By some miracle, you keep him alive. He's not on his feet, but he's alive and able to talk. By the time you've completed this, you hear, "Clear!" from a team member.
You have the whole squad use their first aid to get your NCO back on his feet, and begin trekking off toward the objective. You're walking behind point, it's probably your NCO's way of being thankful for saving his life. It isn't long before you hear a large firefight break out in the salvage yard, not far from your position. Over comms you hear that the enemies are to the north of the friendlies. You are currently to the west.
You head towards the fight, trying to flank the enemies and save your allies. Your NCO has you walking second in line towards the sound of the gunfire. You are taking the trek cautiously, watching the junk piles, constantly looking over your back. You can't shake the memory of those two friendlies being executed right in front of you. You shake your mind off it for a moment when you bump into the first man in line. He is frozen, staring at something straight ahead.
"It's just junk, keep fucking moving!" you hear your NCO say. You walk in front of the private and look at his face. His eyes are filled with terror. He lifts his hand, and points at the junk pile. You don't see what he's talking ab- wait. A barrel. A barrel is protruding from that junk pile...another right next to it. At least four or five gun barrels in a line, directed right at your squad.
"Fuck." you say, before the guns go off and tear your squad and yourself into pieces.
You jump out of your pod as the doors fly open. You've landed at a street intersection, slightly off target. You get into a defensive perimeter around your drop pod and your NCO speaks up. "Alright, we've gotta get to HQ, two city blocks north. On me boys, move out."
You get yourself up and trot alongside your NCO through the sidewalks. You hear ambient gunfire and explosions rocking the city, but you see only an abandoned street before you as you slowly trot northward toward HQ. Your NCO is talking to HQ on the radio while your squad is on the move, and your other two team mates are talking to each other. You notice something, a slight movement, in a window to the left on the other side of the street.
"Movement 10 o' clock!" you yell, and dive into cover behind a car on the street. Just as you yell out, a bullet strikes a team member in the shoulder, sending him down to the ground behind the car. Your NCO and the other team member quickly dive through the windows of the building next to you and begin returning fire into the windows across the street.
You stay in cover behind the car, looking for any enemies flanking you. You see three enemy infantry run out of the building across the street, and lean over your cover. You fire off three shots, masterfully dropping each of the enemies.
You could get up into a higher story in the building behind you if needed, but it would put you at risk.
You sit and wait in cover while pondering possible strategies for the firefight. No new enemies show up out of the building, and you pop off a few more rounds at the enemies in the building across the street. Their shots aren't accurate, landing around the car and against the wall of the building behind you. Your team mate is slowly bleeding out in cover behind the car, and you hear him say that his first aid isn't working. Just then, you see it. An enemy IFV turns the corner up the road, and comes full-speed towards your position. They're going to try to ram your cover.
You just barely get out of the way of the IFV before it pummels into the car you were previously using as cover, sending your wounded team mate into the building behind him and coating the walls in blood. Bullets from across the street pound into the ground around you, and the IFV's turret behinds turning.
"Get the fuck in here!" yells your NCO, motioning for you to get inside the building. Your other squad mate is already running further back into the building.
You jump into the building and take cover immediately. Your squad mate who'd been running further into the building makes it into a backroom and yells for you to run. Your NCO grabs you by the shoulder and you run after him. You pass him, and make it to the side room. You hear him scream out. You turn around and he's laying on the ground clutching at his leg. Your squad mate slams the door shut.
"Fuck! We've gotta get out of here!" he yells.
You turn around and observe the room. You can hear enemy infantry starting to enter the building. There's another door on the other side of the room, and your squad mate begins running toward it.
"Attention all friendlies in the area, we've got mechanized infantry on our position, marking on map now." he says. He marks it on his map as he opens the door. As he looks up, he sees the barrel of a rifle in his face. You try to raise your weapon to save his life, but you're too late. The rifle fires and your squad mate drops like a pin. You fire two bullets into the chest of the enemy in the doorway and walk over. He seems to have been alone.
You check your squad mate. He's dead. On the other side of the door is a large elevator shaft and a door that leads out into the other half of the building, which would get you to the next road over. You check your map for friendly positions, and see that there is a small friendly FOB on the street just through this building.
You grab the nades and dog tags of your fallen squad member and head out toward the FOB, through the building. You are the only remaining member of your squad. As you walk through a doorway, you turn on your comms to ask about friendly elements at the FOB. Just as you turn on your comms, you hear a commotion in the next room over. Footsteps.
You run to a corner of the room, but just as you start running the door busts wide open. A team of enemies is on the other side, doing room clearing. The first into the breach raises his rifle and shoots you twice, dropping you to the floor like a fly.
