Why is titus saying chalco's title isn't his?

He's under the assumption that Chalco's land is in dispute along with the Prince's (since they're traveling together instead) and that it wasn't Chalco who personally won the lands by arm, deed, or word but rather his ancestors. So in Titus' view, it isn't his title but rather their title that he's claiming in their name.

Hence him calling Chalco a mirror: Titus is saying he's nothing but a reflection of his family and not an individual.

Bio: The third of five sons of a great Scordati pirate lord, Cúrua knew from an early age that he was unlikely to ever inherit much from his father. Though he had studied magic ever since his father had agreed to let him have a slave that had once been a sage for his fifteenth birthday, the arcane never commanded the same respect among raiders as the ability to swing some metal on a stick very hard indeed. His father died two years later and, as expected, Cúrua's eldest brother immediately challenged him to a duel for his meagre inheritance. Knowing that he wouldn't be able to evade his brother's axe forever- and that he certainly wouldn't be able to get out alive if he set the new pirate lord on fire- Cúrua surrendered. His brother Rognvald immediately exiled him with little but the clothes on his back and whatever he was able to carry.

Cúrua was found just south of the Chain of Axam almost a month later, half-dead, by a group of merchants. They told him later that the only reason that they didn't leave him where he lay was because they thought that he was a Dorian traveller thanks to his mother's blood. They initially planned to leave him in the nearby town of Sevar to recover, but the locals were a lot less willing to accommodate an injured Scordati. As he travelled further south with the merchants, Cúrua learned to disguise his accent, and by the time they left him in the care of the healers at Carn he was able to pass as a native Firehead Dorian, at least at first glance.

By the time the caravan returned to Carn the following year, Cúrua had settled in, learning more about magic from any mages that passed by. His Scordati upbringing often gave him an unusual take on battle tactics that the commander soon came to appreciate, and Cúrua quickly became his trusted lieutenant.
