Backstory: Tobias was a poor young farmhand living in the Arvadian Glade and, although cliche, was constantly forced to work by his godfather from a young age. He was always tired, and constantly sore, but above all, he was hungry. He had an above average sense of smell and taste, and being teased with ripe crops when he and his godfather could only afford a few meager grains of rice at a time was nothing short of torturous. His stepfather died as a soldier defending a fortress in Carn. His mother became enveloped with such great grief she left Tobias, though not before asking her brother to take care of the child while she wandered the Empire. This is not to say his godfather is a bad or abusive man, simply someone who needed maximum efficiency to keep the both of them alive.
One night though, he escaped. One night, Tobias packed his meager belongings, stole a few mildly unripe crops from the fields, and left, following a road leading to Vaden. He wasn't on the road, though. He took to the sides, hiding wherever he could hide and still move forward. He staved off being hungry on this journey by consuming the unripe vegetables. They were unwashed and unappetizing, but it was better than starving. Eventually though, he reached Vaden in the dead of night. It was a Feast Day, and scraps of food littered the streets. He didn't care they did, though. He dusted them off and ate them before the ants could. If he could find a discarded dish he would consume it slowly, savoring the previously unknown taste. In this manner he satiated his hunger until the early hours of the morning. He was caught trying to steal a particularly juicy-looking apple, but escaped. He decided to put his natural sneakiness to use doing something many with the same abilities have done time and time again before: Stealing the valuables of others. sometimes he steals food to eat, and sometimes money to buy food. Usually he sleeps in abandoned houses or perhaps cheap rooms in inns when he's had a particularly good day; whatever is convenient. In this way, he's been 'living' in Vaden for the past six years. He has dreams of becoming a traveling chef, and yet knows that's obviously never going to happen.
the most obvious slot for me, of course, is ch. 5 but we'll see
