Bio: Santoku was born in a slave's hut, and had a brand burned into his back when he was two years old. When he was four, he was put to work, same as his parents, in a mine in Scordati. As time went on, the tasks he was assigned by the keepers of the mine grew greater and more strenuous. And as the years dragged on, Santoku became more and more resentful of those who laid claim to his life. When he was nine, and set to receive the tattoos that would forever mark him as the property of another at a glance, he set into his first rebellion. He was subdued within minutes. Santoku received his tattoos as scheduled.
But Santoku's willfulness only grew, as did he. The tireless work of the mines made him strong, though he remained skin and bones. He took to stealing food whenever he could, and was caught more often than not, and beaten mercilessly. But Santoku's will was as strong as the metal he helped pull from the mine, and he would not be broken. Santoku's parents were old now, at least for slaves, and could barely work. They were made an example of for Santoku's rebellious behavior.
Horrified, Santoku did as he was told for three days, numb and speechless. Beneath, however, rage was bubbling, boiling up like magma beneath the earth, until on the forth day, he erupted. He caught the one guard watching the slaves while they ate by surprise, cracking his skull against the wall, and roused the rest of the slaves to throw off their chains, and fight their masters. As Santoku pointed out, there were five slaves to every guard.
The struggle was bloody, and in the end, though the slaves won, there were very few who survived. Santoku was one of them. That was six years ago. Since then, Santoku has left his past far behind, carrying only his brand and his tattoos to link his past to his present. Though clever, Santoku is uneducated in anything but mining, and knows little of the world around him. He cares less to learn of it either, except in respect to the way of the sword. His only goal, at least for now, is to grow strong, so he can influence his own will on those who would do what he deems to be evil.
Lone start would probably fit best but he could possibly be a merc as well.
